Ava: Oh, I think those two have everything under control. ::pointing towards the garden to Talia and Nolen:: As you can see, we have prepared the guest room for dinner - almost everything else will happen outside.
Catyr looked around the spacious room. Exposed oak beams ran along the entire length of its’ ceiling, their beige color contrasting against the pristine white of the ceiling.
The walls too were white but lined with photos that must have been placed there recently. At first Catyr thought they were of the Dewitt family but in close examination she realised that whilst one side showed Connor from a baby through to adult, the other showed Ayemet’s progression.
She let out a gasp feeling her eyes well up with tears. She had no idea how the Dewitts had obtained them but the first picture of her baby daughter looking up from a pale pink hand woven blanket brought back memories of that day and the tears fell freely.
There was Ayemet as a young girl grinning as she held her mother’s hand, her facial expressions becoming more sombre as her age progressed until she was in her Starfleet Academy uniform, a smile reappointed like a long lost friend.
Catyr: : murmuring: So much time wasted.
She took a deep breath and looked at the long wooden table, a white tablecloth spread over it and plates with a rustic flower pattern around each edge placed with precision at each seating.
Ava: We will open those huge windowed walls to the garden - it becomes one huge space when that’s done later tonight. It will almost feel like being outside.
She turned and looked at the large windows that dominated one end, the sun streaming through them casting light across the table.
Catyr: :fighting back the tears: Mrs Dewitt it’s perfect. Just perfect.
At first, Ava beamed with the proudness of a successful host. But then she realized how moved her guest seemed to be. She gently put an arm around her shoulders.
Ava: Are you alright?
Catyr: Oh don’t worry about me. Just the tears of a silly woman who wasted too much time on resentment and bitterness.
Ava took a moment before answering, trying to choose her words carefully.
Ava: Feelings are never stupid. They need to be addressed in proper form. Even if it is sadness at a wedding. ::pause:: You want to talk about it?
Catyr smiled and patted the woman’s hand gently.
Catyr: Oh it’s okay. Ayemet had a rough childhood after her father left, and I didn’t help matters, but thanks to that boy of yours we’re getting to a healthier place. :Pause: Now seating arrangements. Who sits where?
Ava tried to smile gently and cover her pride about Connor’s achievement. He always knew that he had a big heart and apparently he was able to infect others with it. She decided to fulfill Mrs Jacin’s request to change topics - at least for now.
Ava: So according to the best man’s planning, we’re at one end of the table with the stars of the evening and the best man and maid of honor… Apparently, they both did not bring a date, so the family part remains small - Followed by friends and colleagues. ::gesturing:: Knowing Connor, I am not sure if there is a clear line between the two.
Catyr: :chuckling as she looks out at the table: Maybe that’s a good thing. Ayemet didn’t have lot of friends growing up; friends are important. If she has to be away then I’m glad it’s with people who care about her. Now what about the actual ceremony?
Ava: Oh, it will be held outside at the creek in the back of our garden. The front has a smaller bar and a few tables to keep everyone busy when they arrive. We will serve finger food before the ceremony, but if you’re hungry from your travels, I can have my staff prepare a real meal for you.
Ava pointed to the garden and took Catyr’s luggage to move it to the side. She gestured to a waiter to take care of it, before joining the Bajoran in her walk towards the green.
Catyr walked slowly towards the garden. There was so much about this area of Earth that reminded her of her homeworld. In a strange kind of way it made her feel less lonely; that somewhere out ‘there’ were worlds where her daughter and this whole she chose to make her life with, wouldn’t feel the grass under their feet and a blue sky above.
Catyr: Ayemet will love this.
Ava: We’ve prepared the patio to accommodate all guests for the reception before the ceremony and we have prepared a small path towards the creek ::pointing to a few stones on the grass::
Catyr turned to face Mrs Dewitt. Taking her hand she smiled.
Catyr: Thank you for accepting my daughter into your family Mrs Dewitt. This is all so. :pause: perfect.
Ava: Please… It’s Ava.
