((Alora DeVeau’s Quarter’s, USS Khitomer))
Back on the Thor, Alora had all the walls in her quarters and her office covered with shelves, and on those shelves stood plants from all manner of planets and places throughout the galaxy. Of course, she didn’t have a comprehensive collection, for that would have required a ship several planets in size. However, she had at least one from all the major Federation worlds, a few from others, and then the most plentiful were gesneriads from Earth - specifically, African violets. However, she’d only brought one species among all that she owned to the Khitty, and only as many as she thought she could give away.
DeVeau: I need to know what your favourite colour is.
Zerva: Black. ::beat:: And sometimes Mustard Yellow. Why do you ask?
DeVeau: Because…
Alora didn’t answer right away because she had her attention on the plants. Her eyes sought out the different colours and hues she’d brought with her, her fingers poised. Finally, she stopped upon one. Plucking it from among its brethren, she turned and offered it to him.
The specimen in question had medium green, fuzzy leaves, with smooth edges, all lightly quilted. That, however, set up a verdant stage for single petaled flowers that were such a deep purple, they were almost black, the yellow centers stark against their shadowy hue.
Zerva: For me? Really? What’s it called and where is it from?
DeVeau: It’s an African violet. They’re my favourite plant. This variety is called Mac’s Northern Lights. There are no true black African violets, but this is about as close as you can get!
Zerva: Thank you, I appreciate it. I’ll make sure to put this in a safe place in my room where Foxy can’t get to it ::laughs:: I’ll need the full instructions on how to care for it.
That was, of course, something Alora had already thought about. Whenever she gave out plants, she always made sure to come well prepared so she could prepare the recipients for their new additions.
DeVeau: Oh don’t worry, I already have all that information written up. I’ll make sure to send it to you before I head to bed tonight.
Zerva: I appreciate that. I haven’t decorated my room much since we first got onboard the Khitomer. It’s mostly just Foxy’s toys, food bowls, and pads all over the place ::smirks:: But I did manage to decorate two of my walls with my Kempo belt rack and weapons display. So there's that? ::glancing over his shoulder at the couch:: I noticed Shlya and Foxy are getting along pretty well. Do you have any pets?
The little girl in question had gotten down on her hands and knees and began to crawl around, barking like a dog. Chuckling, Alora nodded.
DeVeau: Two felines - a calico Terran cat and a purple Risian caracal. The former likes to escape my quarters from time to time.
Zerva: Response
Shaking her head, Alora lowered herself onto the couch and watched the little girl, who, now that she was even closer to the floor, found herself ambushed with puppy kisses. Her cheerful giggles filled the room.
DeVeau: I have no idea how she gets out. I’ve put in all sorts of things to prevent it, but she manages it anyway.
Shrugging, she couldn’t help but chuckle, not only at her cat, but at the antics of her daughter and the dog.
DeVeau: I would have more animals, but I only have so much time and space. Plants are easier to keep.
Zerva: Response
It was nice to spend time with new people - new people who could possibly be new friends! Even better, Alora got to give someone a new plant - and she had no intention of taking any of those she brought with her back home. Since she didn’t have enough for the entire complement of the Khitomer, she knew that wouldn’t be a problem. It was a shame that she couldn’t bring enough for everyone, but just like at home, she only had so much space on a ship to bring them. Sighing, she cast a rueful glance at Ezra.
DeVeau: It’s almost lunch, and then after that, Shyla has a nap. I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask for your forgiveness.
Zerva: Response
