((Indulgence of Chocolate-Coated Jama’haron - "The Dairy Godmother"))
Both Talia and Connor seemed to have a touch of the "Oh my Gods stop my brain from braining!" and couldn't sleep. While their reasons were different, they were also eerily similar. Nolen was transferring. Which meant the ship needed a new XO, and that honor had gone to Connor....It was more of a decision than a discussion, made when Connor wasn't even involved.
Life in Starfleet.
C. Dewitt: You know we could just marry and take a shuttle to Risa and make a living off of cooking pasta all day?
Talia snorted. After the events of the siege of Starbase 33, Talia had dangerously neared becoming a problem. Connor had been there, and together they drunkenly dreamed up a life away from the horrors of war. Where her name wasn't on several hundred death certificates, and his now wife, then fiancée, was missing and presumed dead. They could just make pasta, on Risa. For tourists.
Ohnari: ::grinning, she laid her head on his shoulder:: Don't make it weird. Both our partners are empathic. ::offering the bowl:: Insomniac heartbreak special goo pile?
She could sense the unease, but she also knew it had nothing to do with her being in his space. The unspoken link that wouldn't actually link them up.
Kael.
C. Dewitt: If this gives me a heart attack spike, I’m filing a complaint.
She snorted.
C. Dewitt: It tears me up inside that Nolen is leaving. ::pause:: I’ve not even talked to him.
Ohnari: ::quietly:: Me too. Although, I have talked to him.
And hugged him, and cried a ridiculous amount. He was probably passed out just exhausted from dealing with her emotions. No time to process his own. She felt mildly terrible about that.
C. Dewitt: I don’t even know if he’s angry. Or relieved. Or both.
Ohnari: ::sighs:: I think he is conflicted, for sure. But hearing what they'll have him in charge of? It might as well have been a flashing neon sign saying "Nolen Hobart belongs here". But, he wasn't quite there yet when he told me. I think he was more worried about my reaction.
C. Dewitt: Well I’m sure he was adequately awkward…
Another snort. He knew his best friend well.
C. Dewitt: If there’s one thing Nolen excels at, it’s making emotionally significant moments feel like staff meetings.
Ohnari: ::grinning:: Who? Our Nolen? No waaay...
The two fell into their own thoughts. Passing the bowl of mostly melted goo back and forth. By all logic, it should be awful. However, damned if it wasn't helping. That hollow aching in her chest had lessened with each bite. She wondered if the Deltan added something to it. She decided she would appreciate it for what it was, and not ruin the magic with dissection.
C. Dewitt: You ever wonder what your kid liked, growing up?
Ohnari: You mean "Our" kid. ::nudging his shoulder with hers:: He is half you too.
Saying it outloud like that risked making it more real. But, she pictured their son, a mix of the two in the best of ways. Kael had Connor's eyes, and her hair.
C. Dewitt: If he had ice cream as a kid. If he hated it. If he made a mess of it.
Ohnari: ::smiling sadly:: Don't know how much ice cream would be available if half the galaxy was annhilated...but I am sure future Talia and Connor did the best they could to make desserts.
Both of them were lost for a moment. Mourning a future that they didn't actually want to come to pass.
C. Dewitt: Do you know where he is?
Ohnari: ::glancing up at him:: I can honestly say I do not know where he is.
She didn't. Not really.
C. Dewitt: Response
She and Amelia decided that the fewer people involved the better. But Connor deserved something.
Ohnari: ::raising an eyebrow:: Maybe he and Tori...Gott ::her foot tapped against his twice, attempting to convey the double letters:: some assistance.
C. Dewitt: Response
Perhaps they discovered a small problem with the latest Gott scheme, perhaps someone discovered forged paperwork. Being the enterprising man he was, the Ferengi offered to ferry Kael and Tori to whatever travel hub they chose, and then provide expertly created identification papers so they could truly be free. In exchange, they would forget the "Little paperwork kerfuffle."
Ohnari: Wherever they are...I have a feeling they will be ok.
C. Dewitt: Response
Ohnari: ::humorless laugh:: Well, better than being in a temporal office for an eternity. ::quietly:: I know it doesn't make any sense but...I miss him. And her. I wish we had...I don't know, more time?
C. Dewitt: Response
