((Museum of Medical Devices Throughout the Ages, Dangan Prime))
Discussing the implications of Klingon medical practices while standing alongside Talia made things feel simple again. Like he was an ensign once more. His eyes shifted subtly, in a diffuse way to an emerald green and the corners of his mouth instinctually lifted. Ras was bent at the waist, hands still in his pockets looking at the device closely.
Kendrick: Pre-industrial battlefield medicine? I suspect “sterile technique” meant wiping it on your sleeve and hoping for the best. ::a small shrug:: Though when survival’s the priority, I guess sanitation tends to become… aspirational.
He stood upright and spoke to Kendrick directly.
El’Heem: Couldn’t agree more. ::beat:: So, Kendrick despite that mission being absolutely far too dramatic for a first mission, what do you think. You gonna stick around? Be honest I won’t tell anyone. ::wink::
Ohnari: ::rolling her eyes:: Nothing like being put on the spot in a public forum. However, it really is a different world out in the Alpha Isles...very rarely a boring day.
Kendrick: ::a quiet exhale, considering:: I didn’t transfer here expecting “boring.” I just didn’t expect my welcome packet to include confronting a Sheliak fleet.
Ohnari: ::grinning:: It's not like we signed up for Starfleet hoping for boring.
Boring was NOT obsessing over whatever new scientific hyperfixation he’d decided was the order of the day. She was right. Boring would mean no longer being a scientist.
Kendrick: I left Starfleet once. Thought I could do without the chaos. Turns out I’m not particularly suited for a quiet life. So yes - I’m planning to stick around. ::a faint smirk:: Unless either of you feels Operations needs replacing.
El'Heem: ::chuckling:: You have no idea how wrong we feel about that implication.
Ras watched Kendrick turn and sweep his hand across the rest of the museum. He followed the direction he settled in and just generally took in how vast the warehouse was. Medical history in one culture was massive, medical history across all cultures was incomprehensibly large. They were going to have a field day here.
Kendrick: So tell me - is this what Alpha Isles shore leave usually looks like? Or should I brace for something stranger before the week’s out?
The Kressari subtly glanced towards Talia, a glint of mischief in his eyes.
El’Heem: This is tame. ::voice becoming conspiratorial:: we could find something stranger to do. If that’s what you’re looking for, I think you’ve found the right duo.
He waited for Talia to catch his drift to shift into active shenanigan hunt mode.
Ohnari: response
She had to say that for profiling reasons, she was the chief of medicine after all. It didn’t mean they weren’t about to have a blast.
Kendrick: I suppose every posting has its… flavor.
Oh, how right he was, except on the Khitomer, those flavors tended to blur together.
Kendrick: What about you two? Nobody ends up in Starfleet by accident. What pulled you in - adventure? Curiosity? Family expectation?
Ohnari: response
Ras began to follow the pair towards the next exhibit.
El’Heem: ::whispering to Talia:: You think Starfleet has some privileges afford to it about perusing the museum archives?
He let the question bounce around her head while she tried to figure out what he was up to.
El’Heem: I joined Starfleet as a sense of personal duty, I suppose. They helped my planet survive and eradicate a blight that would have surely caused us to abandon our home. But between you and me, I just like cataloguing and discovering plants from other systems.
Kendrick/Ohnari: Response
His head swiveled, taking note of the density of staff, the absence of actual security, where they could be housing instruments that were not on the floor for display, how much trouble they could get away with…
El’Heem: I think as chief medical officer, you could probably get us a private tour of the museum archives and we can find something fun to play with. You know, for science?
Kendrick/Ohnari: Response
Ras cocked his head and stopped next to a display case the provided a little cover from prying eyes.
El’Heem: All I’m saying is ::looking around:: They might have a Betazed Vox-Temperance Modulator back there or something. I don’t know, could be funny to hear the chief medical officer with the voice of a Hirogen, no?
Kendrick/Ohnari: Response
