((Deck 6, Main Sickbay, USS Khitomer~ After the briefing))
Ayemet sat back as Ensign Michaels left the room abruptly. They had only just begun to scratch the surface of her issues but whether by hitting too close too soon to the heart of them, or whether because she actually did need to be in engineering she had left.
o0 Great job Ayemet. 0o
The briefing had not gone well. She had felt the distaste for her objections from all concerned, most strongly from the CO, and had retreated to the Counselors office in an attempt for contemplation . However as was the way with life onboard the Khitomer she had been interrupted and attempted to help the young Vulcan ensign, but apparently she was not able to do so.
On exiting the office she had run straight into her friend and the Kihitomer’s CMO Talia Ohnari who seemed to be especially happy at her orders from the briefing.
Before she could make a hasty excuse Commander T’Dara had stepped from behind Ohnari and given a curt nod in recognition of Ayemet’s presence. There was no escape now.
Ohnari: Alright, I've got a plan for a mass dispersal of the Sencha preventative serum. Replicating hundreds of vials and dispersing them was a nightmare of logistics last time, so I've been working on an aerosolized dispersal via the life support system. Truth be told, this is a bit of my own personal experimentation. And it seems this is the mission for experimentation. ::shaking her head in partial disbelief:: Commander T'Dara, you're the expert on the modified emitter, anything we should prepare for in addition to the serums? Radiation is never a fun present to bring to a party, telepathy or not.
T’Dara: No.
A.Dewitt: Okay, well I shall leave you two to it.
Ayemet made for the door but like a bajoran carsini snake caught in a hunter’s trap she was pulled back into the conversation, and by Ohnari of all people. She forced a polite smile on her face and turned to face her.
Ohnari: Lieutenant Dewitt, while I do realize you've moved into the counselor role, ::winking:: amazing decision by the way, ::Was it because they were desperate for a counselor the Captain didn't want to punch? Decidedly yes.:: But your past posting in science may be needed in this particular avenue. What are the chances of working on an early detection scan? Or some type of checks and balances to make sure the levels never rise above concerning?
A.Dewitt: :glancing at the exit: Err it might be but…
T’Dara: Given the nature of the wave’s application, it will be difficult to gauge particle buildup until after an individual blast has impacted us.
She looked at T’Dara. There was no rudeness in the interruption, no attempt to belittle or insult her. She had known enough Vulcans to know that what others could interpret as rudeness or judgement was in fact merely the Vulcan tendency to state facts without the prevarication of any social filters; then again it could just be rudeness.
Ohnari: Luckily for us, ::tapping on her PADD:: We have the collective published paper by our own resident Kressari, Doctor El'Heem, along with esteemed colleague Doctor Syrex of our Ronin sister ship. ::the projector above her displayed the molecular structures mentioned in the paper:: Of course special mention to Captain Niac's previous host whom the radiation wave was named for...::wincing:: Posthumously.
T’Dara: The applications in the paper were each based on samples collected from incidental recipients of Sencha radiation. Our results may deviate from the featured methodology significantly.
A Dewitt: Incidental recipients will have to be enough to work from then.
Ohnari: Response
T’Dara: Perhaps our experimentation would benefit from the presence of a static warp field around the ship.
It was very much a spur of the moment idea- but she had grown accustomed to such sudden thoughts cutting through the drudgery that only some of her work days at the SCE provided.
T’Dara: A warp field distorts space, and to a degree, time- indeed some of the first advanced warp drives were referred to as “time warp drives”.
She really was dating herself with this.
T’Dara: Though I loathe even the possibility of temporal… shall we say… shenanigans?... the static shell may help to avoid the ::here she squinted, and the disbelief echoed in her words:: time cancer detected from earlier exposures.
A. Dewitt: Stability would be achieved at a distortion level of 1,283 × 3,695 millicochranes. Anything outside of that and….:making gesture with hands: POP!
Ohnari: Response
T’Dara: Response.
Ayemet eyed the door jealously. She really just wanted to find a bar and lose herself in a glass or two or three of spring wine, but like the carsini snake she was trapped.
A Dewitt: Dr I believe Commander T’Dara is correct. We can create a detection device but at the detection levels necessary for it to work it would only trigger a warning when it is too late.
Ohnari/T’Dara: Response.
A Dewitt: : Dr what if you were to work on an inoculation aimed at those most vulnerable, empathy, telepaths etc? At the very least it could lessen the most harmful effects of the waves.
Ohnari/T’Dara: Response.
