((Lab 3, Science, Deck 16, USS Khitomer))
An actual, viable solution had materialized from their matrix of variables. It wasn’t perfect and it would require refinement at a later junction, but this was gritty field science. When you threw science at the wall and it stuck, you honored Cave Johnson. Whoever that was.
Richard: I’ll start on the gel pack upgrades. We’ll get them fitted with the inhibitors here and hand them off to Ops to dish out as needed. Or would we maybe want to hand it over to engineering to just start switching out now?
El’Heem: I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary to swap the unaffected packs with neurally suppressed ones just yet. Power ramp down procedures should keep us functional in anything less than a Lattice fire fight.
Semara: It'll take a bit to modify the inventory and update the database of what we got. :: Beat :: Whaddya think 'bout pre-positionin' modified packs in caches distributed 'round the ship for quick access?
Richard: Not a bad idea, maybe we should pull in tactical, though. I know the setup and allocation of supplies would be under operations, probably. We can tag in yellow, I mean Charles.
El'Heem: Astute thinking. We just figure things out; implementing is best shared as a ship. ::nodding to Richard:: let’s touch base with Charles and get the packs triaged.
Ras adjusted his posture and rotated his maimed hand in circles as it popped vigorously. After a moment to think, he drew his PADD and pulled up the ship schematics for gel pack hubs with the highest concentrations and identified key clusters for fast pack swaps.
Semara: We're gettin' close to the Nebula. If we work on a program, I think we oughta start with an automated detection protocol for incomin' radiation - it would have to be fast and reliable, and ops ain't gonna have as many opinions 'bout that piece.
Richard: Another point for tagging in tactical. Who else would be better to collaborate with for that? :: He pointed at the computer :: We can work off the data from the first round of testing. We have a lot from the scans taken while we were trying to modulate the low-frequency subspace resonance field.
The notes on his PADD were starting to become a full disaster relief plan for Sencha exposure protocol.
El'Heem: Good. We have anything we can modify to mitigate time constraints?
Richard: I don’t know if the program we created to help predict the wave lengths will help. We used it to adapt our shielding against the varying wave lengths of radiation.
El'Heem: If it’s feasible, do it. Otherwise, let’s relay what we need to Banks and Reht. One of us will need to report in to the captain and remain on the bridge for our arrival at the Nebula.
Semara: Response
Ras nodded to Amelia and turned to Richard.
Richard: I’ll get help with setting up the pack stations. If either of you want to stick with me on this? If you have things you need to get to, I’ll be fine.
El'Heem: We’ll rendezvous with Charles to stage the pack zones. I’ve already written up a rough and ready action plan for where these zones should be set up, but we’ll see what tac has to say.
Semara: Response
Richard: :: Nodding, he tapped his badge opening a line :: =/\= Richard to Charles, do you read me? =/\=
Charles: =/\= Response =/\=
El'Heem: ::To Amelia:: Loop the captain in on our contingencies and what happened in Engineering. I want him up to date and have the full picture so he can pivot us how he sees fit. You okay taking point for science on the bridge?
Semara: Response
Amelia was the fastest thinker of the three, it only made sense to put her in that role. Ras finished up the response plan and waited for Charles to respond before placing the final touches.
Richard: =/\= We’re rolling out upgraded bio rural gel packs. But we don’t want to go through another refit. We don’t have the time. We think we need to prepare as much as we can to have them on standby to switch out with damaged packs if we come under fire from the radiation. =/\=
Charles: =/\= Response =/\=
El'Heem: We’ll relay all orders from the bridge through you.
Semara: Response
Richard: =/\= Lieutenant Semara thinks we should set up, eh, stations around the ship to stock the packs. It’ll make it quicker and easier for engineering to get them and switch them out. Can you help coordinate where the best places to put them would be? =/\=
Charles: =/\= Response =/\=
Semara: Response
El’Heem: You’ll be the ranking science officer there, Mister Semara. You have cart blanche.
Semara: Response
Richard: =/\= Oh! Sorry to keep throwing things at you. But what are your thoughts on switching out packs tied into the defense and weapons systems right now? I think we should. =/\=
The suggestion caught Ras’s attention. He made eye contact with Richard and nodded before mouthing “good call.”
Charles: =/\= Response =/\=
Richard: =/\= Great! When you’re free, meet me in science lab 3. Richard out. =/\=
Charles: =/\= Response =/\=
Semara: Response
Richard: There we go, second Matthews, that’s as awesome as second breakfast.
El'Heem: Almost, Richard, almost. ::taking a deep breath.:: Alright, we’re all set. Amelia, keep me in the loop with our status in the Nebula. Richard and I will meet up with Matthews and get those packs sequestered as fast as possible.
Richard / Semara: Response
El’Heem: I’ll forwarding the response plan to all departments once cap gives the go ahead, use it as a reference, but use your best judgement. I trust you both to make the right call when it comes down to it, but you better have a reason to deviate.
The Kressari tapped at his PADD and sent off the plans as the others spoke.
Richard / Semara: Response
El’Heem: Once you get to the bridge and get the go ahead, I’ll implement. Final thoughts?
Maybe he was being too bureaucratic but after his misstep here last time, he couldn’t afford to not cover his bases.
Richard / Semara: Response
El’Heem: Very well. See you on the other side Amelia. ::turning to Richard:: Prep packs for distribution, it’s a lot to lug, I want to be ready by the time Charles arrives.
Richard / Semara: Response
