((Science Lab, Deck 16, USS Khitomer))

The ambient hum that comes with being so deep within a ship had mostly become tuned out by Ras. It was nothing more than cosmic background noise and in fact when he was off vessel, the quiet seemed too eerie. It was something he was torn about as it had become a comfort in the same way white noise was needed to sleep for some individuals, but the peace of being on solid ground surrounded by greenery and fresh air was something to contend with.

As the doctor entered the science lab, he was the back of Richard’s head with his legs kicked up, reclining in his chair. It was empty, otherwise. Ras walked up and pulled the chair back causing the ensign’s legs to drop abruptly.

El’Heem: Sleeping on the job? The scandal!

Matthews: Response

Ras walked around into Richard’s view and leaned on the table where his feet had previously been propped. He crossed his arms and nodded to the man.

El’Heem: You’re busy up her aren’t ya? You know we have a mission coming up soon, don’t you have stock to catalogue and simulations to run or something?

Matthews: Response

El’Heem: Touche. Wedding was fun, no? Wish we had more events like that to look forward to.

Matthews: Response

El’Heem: That’s Lieutenant JG flower girl to you; ensign snooze a lot.

Matthews: Response

El’Heem: Yea yea, laugh it up. I enjoyed curating those flowers with ensign Semara, I’ll have you know.

Ras stood and walked over to a holo display in the corner. He fiddled around with the image, examining it mindlessly.

Matthews: Response

El’Heem: Any big projects as of late? Those new labs will be some fun.

He walked to the other side of the table Richard was sitting at and hunched over it, using his hands to hold himself up.

Matthews: Response

El’Heem: We’ll have to collaborate again, not going to be as much poking and prodding you as much, regrettably.

Matthews: Response

El’Heem: So anyways, I thought I’d get my tricorder recalibrated before we shipped out again. Got some time for me?

Matthews: Response
