((Promenade, Deep Space Nine))

PO3 Wynters loved the martial arts. Being a human, it would have been expected that she’d trained in some human forms. But that was a mistake many of her sparring partners had made. She’d leaned into all kinds of styles from other worlds: Suus Mahna from Vulcan, a Centauran technique called Imbatis, and her favorite was an Orion one called Zavitha. The right tool for the right job, and she wanted all the tools. Especially the unexpected ones.

The others on the team loved to spar with her, but Jill was always up for some new opponents. So when Mister Zerva offered a chance to visit some combat salon on the station, she jumped at the chance.

Zerva: Petty Officer Wynters. I appreciate you taking this journey with me to Curry’s Martial Arts Training.

Wynters: I’m always up for training, sir. Especially with new people. All my usual partners on the ship know all my tricks by now.

Zerva: Please call me Ezra. We are not on duty. May I refer to your first name Jill?

That was unnaturally awkward for her. She didn’t like the informality of it. But the one thing she would not do would use his name.

Wynters: Sure.

Zerva: ::nods:: Understood. ::smiling:: We are about to meet some of the greatest Martial Artists in all of the Alpha Quadrant. It is said many have made the journey here on either side of the Wormhole to both learn and teach. My Sensei back on earth, spoke very highly of the training that Curry offers.

Wynters: Good. I never practiced any Earth disciplines. I did a bunch of alien ones. You’d be surprised how effective they are. They never expect a Centauran low leg sweep followed up by a Orion naked choke. The combination makes it spicy.

Zerva: ::giddy with excitement:: Indeed. I am excited to learn some new material and share what I have learned from my Sensei in the Kempo arts. It is said the Mol’bara Master here has even taught some of the finest Klingon warriors to hold a Mek’leth. I hope to learn some of those techniques today. What about yourself?

Wynters: Anything I can pick up will be helpful. I don’t train for fitness, I have other things I do for that. I assume that if I’m using any of these techniques, it’s because my phaser is gone and I need to hold the line from a hostile attacker. It uhhh… served me well pretty recently.

She didn’t mention that during the recent combat action, she had to do just that. Several Lattice Alliance soldiers had met their ends most gruesomely with a few choice moves that she had learned.

Zerva: ::nods:: Those are some admiral goals. Remember your training and it will take you far. Shall we step inside?

Wynters: We didn’t come all the way down here to admire the view.

((Curry’s Martial Arts Training, Promenade, DS9))

A class was in session. Suus Mahna, it looked like. Maybe the Eastern form. It was hard to tell unless they were actually sparring.

Zerva: ::whispering to Wynters:: It is an honor to watch another class in session. I believe they are performing the Vulcan art of Suus?

Wynters: Yeah, I studied this. But my teacher used the Western form. Same but different. A little more grappling.

The teacher paused the training and addressed another student.

T’Parr: Emili. The class is now yours.

The teacher, an impressive Vulcan who was in the Eighth Circle of Masters, if Jill was reading the sash right, came to greet them.

T’Parr: Greetings and well met. ::bows:: I am Master T’Parr, of the Suus form of Vulcan. How may I best assist the two of you?

Zerva: ::returns the bow:: I am Ezra Zerva, student of the Kempo and Jujitsu Arts from Earth. I was sent by my Sensei. Kyoshi Crisci of Okinawa. ::gestures towards Wynters:: I have brought a friend and colleague.

Wynters: Greetings to you, Master of the Eighth Circle.

T’Parr: ::bows:: It is pleasing to meet you.

Wynters: I am of the third rank in the Western Form. My teacher was Marik of the Ninth.

T’Parr: Marik is known to me. An excellent teacher. He had taken his talents off-world for some time.

Wynters: I trained with him on a Starbase near Rigel, many years ago. Last I spoke with him, he was well.

T’Parr: Excellent. ::Looking at them both:: Then what brings you to us? We have many classes and many styles for all levels. But you both seem to be practiced.

Zerva: Responses?

Wynters: For myself, I have studied many disciplines and they’ve all merged in my mind. My technique is not as pure as it once was. Marik would be disappointed.

T’Parr: I will judge the technique. And if it is lacking, we will correct it. Marik will not be told if the result is suitable. ::head turn to Zerva:: And for you?

Zerva: Responses?

T’Parr: All of this can be accommodated. How long will you be staying on the station?

Zerva: Responses?

T’Parr: I see. Then a class package would not be economical.

The discussion concluded after going over the mat fees and Jill could see that Mister Zerva was positively glowing with excitement.

Wynters: Careful, you look like you might start levitating at any moment.

Zerva: Responses?
