((Bridge, Deck 1, USS Khitomer))

Dewitt: Good, you’re both doing great. Proceed.

He walked towards the back of the bridge so that neither Melville-Kilpatrick nor Morda had to keep him in their line of sight. His grandpa had always said that a good pair of hands did their best work when they were not also managing their boss. He put his own hands behind his back and watched the boards from where he was.

Morda: Tractor beam ready. Thank you. Initiating recovery. It’ll be low-power to avoid exacerbating the damage, so it’ll take a few minutes.

Thomas nodded in silent acknowledgement, exactly the kind that wasn't much help if the person you were nodding at had to focus their visual attention on something else. He failed to realize that.

Morda: Thomas, how’re you doing?

Melville-Kilpatrick: Just about got it--making sure nothing interferes with it.

Connor watched Thomas’s fingers hover over one panel a beat longer than his would have. But he had been at that point a hundred times. Always double-check your work. It was good that the Ensign took that time, just to be sure.

Dewitt: ::a small nod:: Good, Ensign Melville-Kilpatrick. Take the time you need. A clean lock is worth the time.

Melville-Kilpatrick: How's it going with the tractor?

Connor glanced over to the auxiliary station. Operating a tractor beam was standard procedure aboard a Starfleet vessel bridge. Yet, he had not done it often himself. He knew what it needed, he knew the theory, and he could swap almost every component from that system. Operating a reliable beam, however, was something he had not much experience with. So he chose to remain quiet.

Morda: Response

Melville-Kilpatrick: Alright...::concentrating:: Got it. Should be in...now!

The confirmation blinked up on the sensor board; Connor could see it from where he stood. He had the impression he could feel the tension falling from the Ensign, and his tired face formed a smile.

Dewitt: Good work, both of you!

Morda: Response

Melville-Kilpatrick: I wouldn't call it just yet. What's the status of the hazmat now?

Connor caught the caution in the Ensign’s voice. It was the correct instinct, and it was commendable. But it was not a bridge officer's task to fully handle that.

Dewitt: Good thinking, Ensign. Delegate that. Initiate containment protocols and inform the deck officer. Give them some time to get a hold of the situation and supervise it from the bridge.

Melville-Kilpatrick/Morda: Response

Connor nodded and walked towards the center of the bridge again.

Dewitt: Yes, do not hesitate to check in with them after your shift. That’s what a good officer does.

Melville-Kilpatrick/Morda: Response

Connor smiled and walked over to the small replicator at the side of the bridge.

Dewitt: So who of you is team coffee and who is team tea? Or have you made your peace with being tired?

Melville-Kilpatrick/Morda: Response
