Cmdr. Alora DeVeau - "Down Right Nosy"

Alora loved conversing with people and making new friends, and Patak seemed like a decent guy. However, something caught her curiosity. During the course of their conversations, he had alluded to his family which consisted of a biological set and a non biological set. She could understand that, for she had her own family who were not related to her by blood. However, it was the way he talked about his parents that caught her attention, and as curious as she was, Alora couldn’t help but ask.
DeVeau: If I may, you’ve mentioned you have biological and adoptive parents? You’re in touch with both? And of course, if this is not something you wish to discuss, tell me and I shan’t ask any more!
Thankfully, he didn’t seem to mind, if the smile that accompanied her curiosity was any inclination. His following response only confirmed it.
Patak: Please, ask away, Alora! It’s no secret, and I certainly don't mind. I’m actually still quite close with both families.
DeVeau: So where do you consider the place you’re from?
Patak: The Starkeys raised me, so Earth is proper home to me, but I keep a steady line open to Targan’s House as well.
That was a curious situation. A house that knew of a child, yet didn’t, at least from what she could glean, demand his return?
DeVeau: Holidays must be interesting to figure out.
He chuckled softly, leaning back against the console with a relaxed posture.
Patak: Takes a fair bit of subspace comms scheduling to keep everyone updated on what I'm up to, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Obviously he loved both of his families, which was how it should be, and was only indicative of how well loved he was in turn.
DeVeau: It’s nice to have so much family. I have some adoptive family of my own, but only since becoming an adult.
It wasn’t quite the same, but it was similar. Family wasn’t always biological, and she had learned that, certainly, early on in life with her inlaws. She loved all of her sisters in law, and her nieces and nephews. But beyond that, she’d made family through Starfleet. Kestra, Raissa, Aron, Drex, and others who were wriggling their way into that category. Family in love, certainly.
Patak: Response
DeVeau: I imagine the cultural differences could be interesting to navigate as well.
Alora had gotten a sense of that with Betazoid. It seemed to some people that they simply ran around naked. That wasn’t the truth. While nakedness didn’t bother them so much, mass amounts of nudity was generally associated with weddings as a symbol of love and vulnerability, which were both parts of a marriage. Fortunately, Kalin hadn’t insisted they keep that tradition, which was just as well since the Captain had married them and they had forgone any big ceremony.
Patak: Response
Despite being Klingon and growing up on Earth, Patak seemed quite well adjusted. Growing up in two cultures couldn’t have been easy, even if he made it look easy. It was certainly a story to tell others, and merely an interesting aspect of him. Of course, she found herself even more curious and wanted to know more about the situation. There was that nosiness factor again.
DeVeau: Again, if you don’t want to answer, just say so. So why did humans adopt you and you not stay with your house?
Yep. She was definitely nosy.
