(( Bridge, Deck 1, USS Khitomer ))

Zerva: I know the engineering team is currently working on the problem of removing the filaments from inside the Khitty. All we have to do is figure out how to make this work on the filaments that live in the nebula outside the Khitmore once they do. I don’t think Gunnery Sargent Martz’s speakers will do the trick.

Morda: Tenuous as it is, there is a medium in this nebula. It can convey pressure waves of a sort to affect the filaments.

th'Vrosa: If the external filament structures are connected to the ones inside the ship, could we play Kathputli with them?

What was Kathputli? Whatever it was, Ezra assumed it was something Andorian related? Maybe some sort of game?

Semara: :: Pointing :: Ensign, that's genius.

Apparently Semara knew what it was. Now the question is will she explain it to the rest of the current bridge crew? Ezra waited to see what the response would be.

th’Vrosa: The Engineering Team might buck a bit at it, but if we can figure that out maybe that might be a simpler approach than harmonics?

Semara: :: Holding up a hand. :: No need to be botherin' engineerin'.  :: Working busily :: When we start movin', we'll naturally tension the filaments lodged in the hull, pullin' on their neighbors, pullin' them tight too.  Any harmonics we set up in the hull, the fillaments'll pass those signals to their neighbors, tellin' em to relax and let go so we can pass.  Ain't gonna have much range, but enough.  :: Beat :: I bet that's how the Velithari do it, only their hull's organic and prolly even naturally self-heals and even feels return vibrations like it's hair on skin...

Zerva: Makes sense to me.

Ezra winced. He should of had more to add to that.

Morda: There’s a chance a tendril that hasn’t gotten the message will affect a torpedo under way. If it ruptures the antimatter bottle, big boom. But even with all these filaments, it seems the nebula is overwhelmingly not saturated with them. ::A pause:: I might be able to add some mechanism to get the torpedo’s onboard systems to detect and avoid. On it.

At least Morda did. A good one too.

Zerva: ::to Morda::  A wise precaution.

th’Vrosa: Though I will admit I’m talking out of a very limited understanding. Let me be the first to express this is entirely out of my wheelhouse.

Semara looked over her shoulder at the counselor. Everyone was tossing out ideas. He was going to have to step up with more helpful suggestions.

Semara: None of y'all ever made a string telephone as a kid?

Zerva: ::raising a brow:: Of all my time as a child, I’m afraid that’s one thing I’ve never done before.

Morda: Instead of using the ship’s atmosphere to carry a message to the tendrils, we’ll use the hull to cause the tendrils themselves to carry a transmission to the rest of them. I wonder if the structural integrity field might be viable for fine-tuning?

Now that made more sense, once she explained it. Ezra checked the sensors.

Zerva: ::sensor console bleeps:: I believe it is quite feasible. I should be able to get the precise calculations to fine tune the integrity field.

th'Vrosa: Response

Semara returned to manipulating the science console, then opened the comm.

Semara: =/\= Semara to Naxell. =/\=

Semara didn’t wait for a reply. As soon as her combadge connected, she chimed right in.

Semara: =/\= We got an idea.  We can use the tractor beam to pull the nebula into a retreat, but we gotta know where the Alliance will shoot.  We can draw their fire where we want it with torpedoes from the nebula's cover, and drag all the gas can with us when we vacate the premises.  We oughta be able to keep that up until the Velithari are innoculated. =/\=

Hopefully they could do it in time. He had every confidence in the CMO and her medical team.

Naxell: ::nodding:: =/\= Have you devised a way to get our torpedoes out of the nebula before they’re snared and explode in our faces? For that matter, where are we on getting ourselves out? =/\=

Semara: =/\= We think we can navigate the nebula safely if we transmit the same sleepy harmonics through the hull, and let the filaments lodged there transmit it to their friends.  I'd like permission to test that theory first. =/\=

Naxell: =/\= Don’t think, Lieutenant! Experiment. Cue the Kenny G. =/\=

Soooo, party on the bridge? Hmm maybe some of the music Martz likes would be a good idea. Booming to the grove.

Semara: =/\= Then there's the last bit.  We got a Leviathan-class out there.  We'll need the Jorogumo to make an appearance - the more dramatic and frightenin' the better.  Any luck, they'll turn tail when they see our's is bigger.  If not, we only got one shot, maybe two from the SDA to cover any attack the Velithari make. =/\=

oO Our’s bigger… Oo

Ezra tried not to snort. That would be the sort of thing a first year cadet would joke upon.

Naxell: =/\= Warm up the band, Mister Semara, I’ll talk to Captain Rana.=/\=

Wahoo! Ezra was excited to know this Captain was willing to give his crew some leeway to get things done and try things without hovering over them.

He wished good luck to Captain Naxell with Captain Rana under his breath. Maybe the Jorogumo would put up as good a fight as it had against the other Alliance ship.

Semara: =/\= Aye, sir.  I'll be in touch. =/\=

With comms ending, Ezra looked up to hear what Semera had to say, as opposed to just listening in while working.

Semara: Alright, let's test our theory out. Zerva, engage the hull harmonics program, then keep an eye on the sensors. I wanna know if the Alliance sees us movin' around, or if the nebula takes issue with us.  Counselor, kindly take the left seat and watch damage control especially - we shut it down the moment there's a sign it ain't workin' right.

Zevra: Aye, ma’am. ::computer bleeps:: Hull harmonics program is up and running.

Ezra began the calculations, but something wasn’t right. Looking back up he saw Lieutenant Semara seemingly unsure if she should sit in the Captain’s chair or not. The three of them staring at her.

oO Oh come on, you know you want to! I’d do it. Oo

Ezra found himself looking around to see if the Captain or XO was standing there, as if they could hear his words.

Zerva: ::whispering under his breath, beat:: Do it, do it.

th'Vrosa: Response

Semara: Alright, Ensign Morda, thrusters gently, please...  Ready to stop on a moment's notice.

Morda punched in the code to add navigation thrusters while the helmsman did their thing.

Morda: Aye, sir. Starting at half-a-meter per second … now.

Ezra waited with bated breath. He hoped things wouldn’t go wrong. Especially with Semara’s first time in the chair. He knew she had this. He also trusted Morda’s skills at navigation.

Zerva:  Sensors and harmonics are working within normal parameters.

An audible chime came from the left of the Captain’s chair where Semara sat.

Semara: Report.

Zerva: ::checking the senors:: Sensors indicate we’ve got a filament thread about twelve meters just off the port bow. ::racing his fingers over the console:: Adjusting harmonic frequencies.

Morda / th'Vrosa: Response

Semara: That ain't too bad. :: Beat :: Zerva, let's up the doppler correction factor for our harmonics, that oughta help as we get goin' quicker...  Morda, go to one-quarter impulse.  Warmin' up the engines a little oughta help reduce vibrations and make life easier down in engineerin'.  :: Beat :: Start bringin' us around to the edge of the nebula, but keep it graceful.  I want a better look at our visitors.

Zerva: ::nods:: Adjusting now. ::computer bleeps:: It’s working ma’am.

Morda / th'Vrosa: Responseiol

The Khitomer maneuvered towards the edge of the nebula. The view screen went from a snowy white, to a more clearer view, although it was still a bit hazy. As the image cleared up, they could make out the shapes of several ships. Initial resorts indicated two ships and then a large blob just on the edge of their sensors indicated a Leviathan class vessel. But the Leviathan wasn’t alone. It was flanked by a cruiser and two smaller support vessels as the image continued to clear up.

The Leviathan charged its main Sencha emitter. A bombardment at a small portion of the nebula far off near its borders. The pinkish hue of the nebula began to wither away and darken like a storm cloud.

Ezra took note Semara wasn’t looking so well. She was curled up in the Captain’s chair much like a cat would. Her feet were elevated off the ground with her knees curled up into her. She leaned in towards the counselors chair. Was she alright? She didn’t give him a chance to ask as she chimed in.

Semara: Alright, cap'n said to warm up the band.  Let's get to know the players.  :: Beat, turning to the counselor. :: 'Fore we engage, full tactical report and behavioral assessment.

Ezra wasn’t sure if attacking them was a wise idea. Especially when he knew what the power of just one Leviathan ship could do. Once they fired, their location would be known and they’d have to shoot and scoot to keep the Alliance ships from getting a lock on the Khitomer.

th'Vrosa: Response

Morda / Semara: Response

Zerva: Are you sure about those two smaller craft?

Ezra continued to adjust the harmonics as needed, as he listened to the counselor’s report. Leviathan ships were no joke and could damage the Khitomer as it had done on Frontier Day. If those two smaller ships were what he thinks might be, it could make things worse.

Semara / Morda / th'Vrosa: Response

Zerva: What about the Jorogumo? Didn’t the Captain say he was going to talk with Captain Rana about an assist from them? Should we wait or jump right in until they hopefully arrive to help us out?

Semara / Morda / th'Vrosa: Response

Zevra: ::nodding:: Yes Ma’am I understand. ::checking the sensors:: The doppler harmonics are working at full capacity.
