(( Sickbay, Deck 6 - USS Khitomer - Drydocked at DS33 ))

Nothing like a physical in the morning to wake a woman up.

Well, technically Amelia woke up from a strange dream of younger days where her old Professor Kayto was scolding a young Lieutenant Commander Hobart for something (despite the fact the two never met or even knew of each other's existence), then telling Amelia the two of them had to work together on a group project and she'd fail both of them for the semester if they didn't have perfect answers.  Okay, more of a whacky nightmare, come to think of it, but it was sufficiently mundane that Amelia mostly forgot about it.  Nothing breakfast and tea couldn't cure before trotting down to the sickbay where she swung her legs waiting to be given a once-or-twice over.

Melville-Kilpatrick: I can remember that...mind holding still for a second, anyways?

She did, somewhat, mind holding still for a second.  Sleeping for a longer period of time had a tendency to leave her muscles stiff and brain restless.  But she could manage for a minute.  While the pretty lights started to wave over her, Amelia decided she'd try to strike up some conversation.

Semara: So... :: A little smile. :: First contact.  :: Smile growing. :: How's it feel?  You get to meet 'em?  What did you think?

Melville-Kilpatrick: Their captain was in here figuring out their equivalent of a gluteal implant. Which, as it turns out, was a lot different.

She giggled, and the laugh left behind a huge smile.

Semara: Oh, I bet that was interestin'.  :: Beat :: Talk to her much?

Melville-Kilpatrick: I got the sense that she didn’t seem to like me all that much. Or maybe that’s just me being unable to read other species’ body language.

Semara: :: Eying the doctor :: There's a difference between dislike and discomfort.  She ain't got a frame of reference for treatin' men as equals... I trust you did everything you could to put her at ease, but... It can take time.

One corner of Amelia's lips slid upwards, but her eyes narrowed.  She remembered the compassion the man showed to the imprisoned Sheliak, and the way he did everything he could to help.  That time the two of them had been on an equal playing field - neither of them knew what the sludge-like alien was thinking or feeling.  This time, body language was no impediment for Amelia.  It made her wonder how he'd feel when she made her second ask of him.

Melville-Kilpatrick: But hey, that’s what it’s about. I never thought too much about first contact until it happened to me. But you got to see their ship! How was that?

Semara: Interestin'!  But I mostly saw their observation deck, a' sorts.  The others got more of a tour.  Still... Everything was alive... Sorta.  Know how a tree is mostly technically dead?  Or skin's a lotta dead cells?  Kinda like that, I think.  :: Beat :: I heard the Velithari and their ship are quite resistant to Sencha.  Get anythin' more outta them 'bout that?

Melville-Kilpatrick: Response

Amelia huffed and lightly shook her head.

Semara: Huh.  You did good getting' that much.  They ain't the most trustin' sort, from what I gather, so we're lucky we learned what we did and even luckier we're still talkin'.

A device beeped, giving the Starfleet standard signal of a completed scan.  Amelia gave another smile.

Semara: That was quick!  :: Beat :: Gonna give Talia a run for her medical tricorder if you keep gettin' physicals done that fast.  What ya got for me?

Melville-Kilpatrick: Response

She leaned in to look over the numbers over his shoulder.  Perhaps she should have predicted a few minor nit-picks, especially with as hard as she'd been driving her body lately, but while he read out an otherwise clean bill of health and made some suggestions, Amelia's eyes skipped down to the readings on her neural activity, psilosynine levels, and some of the less-known numbers that modified telepathic activation.  They were all exactly where they always were, but still...

Her head turned back from the readings, and she gave a smile and a nod.

Semara: I can do that.  I'll make sure to work in some more electrolytes durin' and after my time with B'Ella, and I'll try makin' sure I'm gettin' enough recovery... :: A long beat. :: But I was hopin' for another thing while I'm here.  I'd like a full telepathic work-up.

This was the thing that would have made Talia raise an eyebrow.  Especially after the last shore leave.  Not that the younger doctor wouldn't have questions too, but he'd have ones that were more easily answered.

The problem was: he could easily refuse, and ask another doctor to do it instead.  What Amelia was asking for was the difference between having her pulse and blood pressure taken at rest and running full-out on a treadmill hooked up with all the gizmos monitoring performance and vitals.  A full telepathic work-up meant having to use her telepathy, typically with the administrating doctor, though sometimes a nurse would step in.  (Would nurse Othin volunteer to be read?  There was a weird image.)  Now that she thought about it, the grand total of three times she'd done it the proctor was always another telepath: twice with a Betazoid, and once a Rodulan.  However, as experience had informed her, there were plenty of people uncomfortable with the idea of someone else coming anywhere near their noggin, and as a rule privacy and consent took precedence when there was another pathway to give medical care.

Melville-Kilpatrick would naturally need to know how to give the test, but who knew if he'd ever performed one?  If he wasn't comfortable, it might defeat one purpose of this little side-adventure, but... It was worth a shot.  There was also a new Bolian doctor due in she might be able to pester before going to Talia.

Melville-Kilpatrick: Response

Semara: No, I ain't havin' any problems, but I've had several doses a' Sencha radiation now... And the serum.  I've read enough a' the science to know long-term effects on telepaths ain't fully understood yet.  I wanna be sure, if that's alright.

Which was, of course, all true.  What was also true was she'd been leaning on telepathic exercises rather than real communication with other people to stay sharp.  And that at least two different meetings she intended to make might depend on her having the telepathic strength and acuity she was used to having at her mental fingertips.

Her lips curved upward with an expectant intensity, waiting for what the answer would be.
