(((Deck 6, Main Sickbay, USS Khitomer)))
Lieutenants Jg. Zerva and Michaels alongside Ensign Morda were making plans. Plans that include Morda heading to the bridge with the medical team that was called up by the XO, leaving Ezra and Lera to deal with figuring out how to deal with the filaments.
Michaels: Well, Mr. Morda. It appears your engineering career is at an end. I will take care of the sensor data. You get to the bridge.
Morda: On it, L-T’s. ::Turning to a trio of medics lingering from addressing his and the others’ laceration wounds:: Grab your gear and follow me to the bridge. Stat-like. ::Tapping his commbadge:: =/\= Bridge, sickbay. Medical and security team en route. =/\=
Ensign Morda and the medical team departed for the nearest turbolift, leaving the two alone.
oO L-T’s? Oo
It hadn’t fully sunk in that he had been a Lieutenant, in this case Jg for almost a year now. And on top of being responsible for an entire department, he had another officer that relied and looked up to him, much he had done for the previous security officer in charge of ships security. That was just over two years ago when he arrived at the then Security Chief’s door, ready for his first assignment as an Ensign. Had it really been that long ago?
oO Focus Ezra. You and your fellow L-T have a job to do. Oo
Zerva: ::to Lera:: I think our best chance will be trying to get engineering back so we can get out of here in a hurry. I recommend we contact the bridge and update them. See if we can hookup with Lieutenant El’Heem, the Captain and Doctor Melville-Killpatrick oO He needs a nickname. Does he have one yet? Oo in the science labs. Use the data we have with the sample they got from space. See if we can find a way to combat those filaments. Do you concur?
Lera’s opinion mattered to him. She was an engineer and because they shared the same rank, it was important to get her thoughts on the matter.
Michaels: We have a number of engineering problems. Restoring full power. Without power there is little we can do concerning anything else. That probably involves dealing with the filaments. We have to free ourselves from the filaments without making the ship look like a submarine with a screen door. I suspect that dealing with the filaments will require input from Science.
Zerva: Good idea.
Ezra tapped his combadge.
Zerva: =/\= Lieutenant Zerva to the bridge. =/\=
C. Dewitt: =/\= ::quietly, thoughtfully:: Go ahead, Lieutenant.=/\=
Zerva: =/\= I’m sending Ensign Morda to accompany the medical team to the bridge. Do you have any additional updates for us, sir? =/\=
C. Dewitt: =/\= We have an unidentified filament-based structure on the bridge. It appears to have manifested directly inside the compartment. Unknown composition, unknown function. We are treating it as potentially hostile. ::pause:: We are also proceeding with an away team to the Alien vessel. Lieutenant Torrado is accompanying the team. =/\=
Great. More problems. This time on the bridge. It would seem they had their hands full. It couldn’t all be a coincidence. Good thing he had asked Morda to arm himself just in case. Away team to rescue Ensign Matthews? Why wasn’t he on said away team? They would need a security officer. It was standard protocol. He knew Ras would would move everything to get Richard back, assuming they let him go. At least they had some back up in the form of Marine Lieutenant Torrado. That thought made him feel a bit better. Who else was going though? Ezra quickly went over the list of known away team members. Semara who had called both Doctor Ohnair and the Admiral to the shuttlebay. Beyond that he wasn’t sure.
Michaels: =/\= Response =/\=
Zerva: =/\= Yes sir, we appreciate the update. Commander, based on the available information we have, I think our best course of action would be to get engineering back in the science labs. My recommendation is Lieutenant Michaels and myself hook up with Captain Naxell and the science team there on deck 16. We can assist them in finding the answers we need. I’ll have Alpha and Beta Shifts stationed between Engineering decks on the lookout, should those filaments decide engineering isn’t enough and sneak their way to other parts of the ship. =/\=
Michaels: =/\= Response =/\=
C. Dewitt: =/\= Negative. ::speaking calmly, but firmly:: The Captain is cared for. I want you to begin cataloging these filament structures shipwide. I need to know how many we’re dealing with, where they are and whether they continue spreading. =/\=
That was good to hear the Captain was cared for, but that wasn’t why he was suggesting that himself and Lera go there. They needed answers and he felt their best course was in the science labs. That all being said, he respected First Officer Dewitt and knew this was the best option to get those answers. But how were they going to find something you can’t see with the naked eye?
Zerva: ::to Lera:: Looks like that sensor data will come in handy after all.
Michaels: =/\= Response =/\=
Zerva: =/\= Yes sir, we’re on it. =/\=
C. Dewitt: =/\= Use all security and engineering resources you we can spare. I need to know what systems might be affected. ::pause:: Also issue a shipwide advisory. No direct contact, everyone needs to be careful. If you have any data on these report immediately back to me. =/\=
Time to step up more now than ever before. He got this, he knew he could do it and he knew the security team was up for the task, just like he knew he could count on Lera.
Michaels: =/\= Response =/\=
Zerva: =/\= We’ll upload the sensor data that Ensign Morda gave us and coordinate our efforts with security from Engineering and find you that data, sir =/\=
C. Dewitt: =/\= Anything else? =/\=
Michaels: =/\= Response =/\=
Zerva: =/\= No sir, that is all. Ezra out =/\=
Michaels: Engineering is on the way to Deck 16. I should check their status before going to Science.
Zerva: We’ll convene there with the security shifts now that we are no longer heading off directly to deck 16. I think engineering will make a good place to get started.
Michaels: Response
Ezra turned to the members of Gamma Shift in sickbay.
Zerva: Kelana, I want you and your team to start here on deck 6. Work with the remaining medical team in sickbay using the sensor data that Ensign Morda uploaded into the computer and then make you way up, sweeping all decks between here and deck 2. Keep myself and Lieutenant Michaels updated. I want to know the moment you find anything.
Kelana: Yes sir. You can count on us.
Zerva: And Kelana? No unnecessary risk. You heard the XO. Be careful.
Ezra exited from sickbay with Lera at his side towards the nearest turbo lift.
((Brief Timeskip. Deck 12, Engineering, USS Khitomer))
((OOC: The events in Engineering with Zerva and Michaels happen before Lera is called away to the shuttlebay))
Enroute to engineering Ezra contacted the other two security shifts, Alpha and Beta to meet him and Lera there so they could discuss what the next plan of attack would be moving forward. Lera headed directly towards Petty Officer Sparks location to speak with her as Ezra made the shipwide announcement.
Zerva: =/\= Attention all hands, attention. This is Lieutenant Zerva. I have been advised to issue a shipwide security advisory. The nearby nebula is emitting nearly invisible filaments that have been located on the bridge and engineering. Use the sensor data uploaded by Ensign Morda in the ship's computer to locate them. Avoid direct contact and do not touch them. Send your findings directly to engineering, where we have set up a monitoring station to coordinate with the XO and all departments. =/\=
The last thing Ezra wanted was to have the crew bombarding the XO with every little possible thing they thought was a filament. It made more sense to take all the data here where they could sort through it all and send the relevant data to the bridge.
Ezra turned to the leaders of Beta and Alpha Shift.
Zerva: I’ve got Gamma Shift taking care of all decks above engineering, starting in sickbay on deck six. Petty Officer Pearl, take your Beta Shift team to the lower decks and conduct a sweep of all decks below engineering. Make sure you’ve got a tricorder handy. We don’t want any surprises on this one.
Siggy gave a sly grin.
Alamenda: You mean like the first nebula mission where we were stuck in the turbo lift kind of surprise?
Zerva: ::smiling:: Yeah, only this time leave the tempest board in your quarters.
Pearl: ::grinning:: Yes sir. We’ll get right on it.
Zerva: Petty Officer Maryu, I want Alpha Shift to remain here. Work with Petty Officer Sparks and the rest of the engineering team. Keep tabs on those jefferies tubes. We don’t want anything getting in here that shouldn’t. Reroute all calls directly to us and we’ll respond accordingly.
Maryu: ::nods:: We’ll keep things locked down from here, sir.
Zerva: And remember, no heroics. I don’t want to hear any of you ending up in sickbay because of careless mistakes. Got it? Alright, let’s move out.
The six security officers nodded and began to make their way to their respective assignments.
Ezra turned his attention to Lera who was now approaching.
Zerva: ::nodding:: Ready?
Michaels: I am finished here. I assume we are now heading down to Deck 16 now.
Zerva: All lower decks are now being swept by Beta Shift. I’ve got Gamma Shift covering the upper decks and Alpha Shift is here keeping tabs in engineering. I think our best course of action is to —-
Chenn: =/\= Transporter Room two to Lieutenant Zerva? Uh crewman Chenn here. =/\=
Zerva: =/\= Go ahead crewman. =/\=
Chenn =/\= Uh sir you might want to make your way here to deck 9. I think, uh, I think I've found some of those fil-a-ments you talked about. They’re in the… Oh my, is that… blood? =/\=
Ezra cast a quick glance at Lera.
Michaels: =/\= Response =/\=
Zerva: ::to Lera:: Looks like we’ve got our first location. Better grab a medkit on the way out.
Lera: Response
Zerva: =/\= Hold on Chenn, we’re on our way now =/\=
Michaels: Response
