((Deck 6, Isolation Room, USS Khitomer))
Tori: Yeah, sure. :: A glance to the Doctor. :: Did Talia tell you what she plans to do with me? I thought I heard Othin say something about marrow.
Melville-Kilpatrick: I think Dr. Ohnari mentioned that a marrow transplant could help. If it helps, it's what I would do if I was in her shoes.
A chuckle wasn't really what he was expecting from that, but then again, he wasn't the one being treated. People took these things in all sorts of different ways.
Tori: That's an awfully optimistic treatment plan. I almost wouldn't believe you if I weren't empathic.
Melville-Kilpatrick: Well, it's better than sitting around and doing nothing. Besides, it's worked for some people. Maybe not in exactly the same situations, but it could work.
Tori: C'mon doc, you just scanned me. You're not the first person to do it. I know what the tricorder says. It's not just the bones in my shoulder. Assuming I don't blip out in a temporal paradox tomorrow, and assuming I don't develop terminal time cancer in the next ten years, the Semara line still ends with me.
Melville-Kilpatrick: ::pursing his lips:: That doesn't mean we should just give up on you.
It wasn't quite that he was angry with her for the way she was feeling, but it seemed counterintuitive to be so pessimistic. There were always chances going forwards.
Tori: Sorry, that wasn't your fault. It's just I've just heard it enough times already...
Melville-Kilpatrick: Anyone would get tired of it. But keep your head up.
He looked down at the chirrup sound, then winced. He hated to leave on such a heavy note, but he was needed. It wasn't even his first week, and he was already making the tough choices.
Tori: Sounds like you gotta go. :: Beat :: You mind seeing if some strapping security officer can bring Kael to visit? Maybe I can walk with him a little? I'd rather not rot in this bed while y'all decide what our future is going to look like, if it's all the same to you.
Melville-Kilpatrick: I'll see what I can do, ma'am.
Tori: Thanks.
Thomas noticed the hesitation, and was about to turn and leave. He wasn't the best person for any of this, not the way someone she knew would have been.
Tori: And if you meet my mom, tell her thanks for the treats for me.
Thomas nodded. He could do that much.
