Talia felt so uncomfortable. The beings and their semi-sentient ship were causing her empathic senses to be dulled to the point of uselessness. It was more alarming than she realized. It was disorienting and caused her to make several diplomatic missteps. Shaking off the discomfort, she just suppressed it. She mentally shook herself and was determined to take the reins back from her weirded-out senses. They had a mission outside of the tour: Ensign Matthews.

Ohnari: ::carefully:: Aside from professional interest, I believe you may have stumbled upon a member of our crew...::wincing:: a male officer.

Torado: You might recognize him. ::raising her hand up about as high as she could:: About yea tall, dark hair, literally never shuts up? We're kinda fond of him.

Alya: This is not a matter of security. But I assure you that your crew is not in immediate danger.

When said "crew"...? This was not the first matriarchal society she had ever encountered, but this one seemed less focused on inequality... and perhaps treating males as tools? She hadn't quite figured out where they fell on the societal ladder.

Ohnari: If you will allow another question, could you expand on the role of Velithari males within your society...?

She seemed to have presented the inquiry correctly. While she was still muddled, she swore she picked up on a bit of relief. Perhaps it was the way the labium..(?)..clicked. It seemed to be an indicator, but her anatomical knowledge of insectoid beings was sadly lacking. She would so be reading that book Ras had given her for her birthday about insectoids used in medicinal practices.

The arachnid on the cover caused her to yelp and throw it. Which, she was 100% sure he counted on.

Alya: A male is a male. He is the given. A male is prepared for his time. His time is the only thing he is there for. Until his time he is kept clean and fed.

Her brows slammed into the ridged forehead, she looked back at Alene with a baffled look. What in the Gods names could that possibly mean?

Torado: You know, like, what do they do? What are they responsible for? What's their expertise?

Alene apparently had the words Talia didn't. The Haliian nodded in agreement.

Alya: ::a slow click in the back of her throat:: I do not understand that question, Torado. The male is the one who gives. That is his expertise. That is his responsibility. There is no other.

Ohnari: When you say "give", is this a part of um..breeding?

Were they going to stumble into a chamber of past males with busted pelvises after their "giving" days were over? Gods help Matthews if he stumbled upon such a thing. No way could he keep his mouth from mouthing. And in this particular mental image she had given herself, albeit unwillingly, she wouldn't blame him.

Torado: So they're basically livestock. You're telling us half your species is treated like livestock.

Talia discreetly placed her hand on Alene's forearm and gave a light squeeze. A caution to not insult the insectoids and their semi-sentient home, lest they become the next item on the menu despite their female anatomy...

Alya: ::carefully picking each word:: I do not know your word. I do not have it. ::small inclination of the head:: I have given you the truth of us. If your truth is a different shape, that is not a wrong of mine.

Ohnari: Please forgive our continued questioning, the concept is rather foreign in our society. While the Federation is made up of varied and eclectic variations, generally males are considered equal to females. There are differing levels depending on the species of origin, but for example, on Halii the males and females are considered mirrored halves. Neither half is superior to the other.

Although...they did have the festival of the divine feminine, and most of the pronouns given to inanimate objects were female...probably best to leave that unsaid. Not that other societies didn't have similarly slighted scales, Betazoids were an unapologetically matriarchal society, while Ferengi went wildly towards the other end of the spectrum.

Torado: Response

Alya: When you have asaked your last question of this room, I will lead you on ::gesturing to the exit:: There is more of the ship to walk and see.

The dismissal was clear. However she wasn't quite ready to give up finding out more about how the Velithari viewed the opposite sex.

Alya: We will visit the observation chamber and medical facilities. We have been given permission.

Ohnari: ::brightening:: That will be most appreciated. Please lead the way.

Alya / Torado: Response

Ohnari: What does the observation chamber observe? ::pausing, she realized that sounded wrong:: What I mean, is it connected to the medical facilities?

Alya / Torado: Response

Ohnari: Is our crewman currently in your medical facility?

Alya / Torado: Response

The Haliian's ridged brow started to twitch. While she could understand the initial confusion and caution, given their seemingly extreme prejudice, she anticipated that might be the case. But, she had to assume at this point, they should know he was unarmed.

Ohnari: Surely at this point, you have determined he is not a threat...would we be permitted to retrieve him?

And this would be it. Would they be allowed to take the mouthy Ensign home?

Alya / Torado: Response
