((Subspace Call: Valora to Karsyn))
Valora paced her office on board the Opulent waiting for her husband to answer her call. She was furious and Karsyn was the only one that could calm her down when she got like this. In fact, her First Officer had sent her away to call him after the deal had gone sideways and she’d lobbed a glass sculpture across the bridge of her little vessel, shattering the bust of Major Kira Nerys and cracking the console it had collided with. When the comm channel finally blipped through, Valora pouted angrily at her husband.
V. Croix: Karsyn. Karsyn! You're ignoring me again.
Karsyn let out a brief sigh in response to his wife’s voice. He actually was not ignoring her this time, but instead was side tracked. Perhaps he just needed to pay better attention to his COMM when Valora reached out to him. She always grew impatient if he did not answer in the first few rings. He accepted the subspace call and looked at the digital representation of his spouse with his eyes meeting her gaze.
K. Croix: Hi Val, I’ve been quite occupied setting up our new quarters on the Khitomer. It takes me a bit more time because I lack your touch in fashion. How are you doing babe?
V. Croix: I'm furious. This weaseling little cut throat Ferengi undercut my deal.
He was not at all surprised about a Ferengi undercutting her deal, that was always the case. However, they must have been pulling a profit on their agreement, so perhaps Valora could provide her client with a competitive quote.
K. Croix: Can you send another offer to beat the Ferengi?
Valora stopped pacing and slammed her hand on her desk, which hurt. She then shook her hand a bit as if the ache could be dispelled and rolled her neck to try and relieve some of the tension building in her shoulders.
V. Croix: Of course I can, but I won't. I've got a reputation to maintain and undercutting a Ferengi makes me look weak and insinuates my product is on par with theirs.
If that was what she wanted then that was her own prerogative. Karsyn was just trying to be an exemplary, helpful husband to see if she had everything covered. At the end of it all, he just wanted her to know that he had her back and supported her business; a business that put food on the table for the couple when he was not galavanting across the galaxy in Starfleet.
K. Croix: Did you cover all of the benefits? That they should purchase from you because your product is reputable and will still be in business long down the line. As opposed to them going with Skip & Quarkina’s business, who won’t be around anymore if they have a problem?
V. Croix: I'm not going to beg them, Karsyn. Besides... You wouldn't like the buyer.
Karsyn did not necessarily want her to beg, but she still could have acted like she was begging. Sometimes that worked in business from what he knew. However, Valora was an alpha woman who did not particularly enjoy taking no for an answer when it came to negotiations. However, she was the type that would not bend over backwards just to make a deal go through as she did not want to appear weak. He did have high hopes the Ferengi wasn’t who he thought it was though.
K. Croix: It’s not Salmotillo is it?
V. Croix: No you made your position on me having suture dealings with him very clear. I do listen, you know?
Karsyn raised an eyebrow and was very cautious with his response as he kept a calm demeanor.
K. Croix: From time to time.
Sighing she sank down onto the white leather settee that formed part of the sitting area in her very well decorated office. Her husband didn’t put his foot down often, but when he did, she knew well enough to listen. Valora enjoyed the freedom that her marriage allowed her, but she also respected that he wanted to protect her. Salmotillo was a particularly brutal man and after a deal had almost gone very bad for Valora, and Karsyn had put himself between the Andorian and his wife, he’d made it abundantly clear that she was never to have dealings with him again. So she hadn’t.
V. Croix: I always listen. I just may not always agree.
Karsyn was going to let that one go while he still could without creating any conflict. He did not particularly enjoy arguments and avoided them at all cost. Sometimes he wished he had a remote to fast forward through the negativity and press play to continue onward when everything was all positive once again.
K. Croix: Makes sense to me my darling. Now shifting to the Khitomer, I made sure that we were provided with quarters with a closet large enough to fit your wardrobe in it. Well the hope is that what you bring will fit at least.
Calmer already from hearing his voice, Val recognized that he was trying to cheer her up by changing the conversation. He’d requested a posting closer to where she did the bulk of her business and they were both very happy that his transfer had gone through. She could set aside work for a little while and share in her husband’s excitement.
V. Croix: Part of my wardrobe anyway. Do you want the good news?
Of course Karsyn wanted to hear the positive part of the news. Maybe he’d even benefit in some way, shape, or form. That was always an added bonus.
K. Croix: Over the bad? Of course.
V. Croix: My pilot set course to Earth six hours ago. I should be able to meet you there about a week before you have to report.
Karsyn flashed his brilliant pearly white teeth in delight over the good news that Valora provided. There was a little twinkle in his blue eyes as they made contact with hers.
K. Croix: That’s wonderful news! I miss you and it will be nice to be reunited in a few days.
V. Croix: Miss you too, mon coeur. I'll see you in four days.
He particularly loved it when Valora used a foreign language in their conversations. This was because he knew a plethora of languages being a communications officer. The requirements were more rigid back in the 23rd century as the Federation was still learning many different languages. It also reminded him of their time together living in France.
K. Croix: I’m looking forward to spending time together. I’ll see you very soon my love.
Ending the call, Valora leaned back in her seat smiling. She hadn’t seen her husband in person in quite a long time. That was the nature of their relationship; they were together for a period of time and then they went their separate ways to pursue their goals and interests. If she was honest, however, she was growing tired of being apart from him and was happy that he was altering his career to be closer to her. She was also very excited to spend a little time back at their chateau in France. No matter where they lived, or how long they were away, their first home together would always hold a special significance for her, after all, it was where they’d become the Croixs.
