She didn’t know long she had spent taking in Connor’s message. Her first,
Instinctual reaction was to feel such sorrow for him. Her Father had walked out on her when she was young and she imagined that that sudden lose that sudden change from what was known and familiar to the realisation that not only was that thing changed but would never, could never, return to what once was what had overcome her husband.
But then something else happened. A growing realisation that Connor had done exactly what her Father had done. Had done exactly what Gorva had done. Just left her. Without ceremony without warning and apparently with the desire for her not to go with them.
Her anger began to boil. She tried to rationalise it, to explain that what he was going through was more important than her hurt feelings that it was sudden and he was protecting himself. But was he? Was he protecting himself? Or simply not wanting to deal with her?
She picked up her old battered Starfleet hold-all and packed a few things in it, clothes, her Bajoran prayer mat, cosmetics, washing stuff. The sort of things that one would pack if they were travelling to see family.
Her eyes glanced at the holophoto of them at their wedding, her hand placed on his chest her mouth caught in a laugh, his eyes sparkling with pride and happiness.
She stopped for a moment gently touching it as if it could shatter at any moment. That was a lifetime away. She had rescued herself from the lab and by chance the Khitomer had beamed her off a failing shuttle. She thought that the future held endless possibilities then. Not now. Now she was alone again, her attempts to break through to Tram had proved fruitless, the ship was busy trying to stop a future where many would die and suffer and she was looking at a photo.
She shook her head, picked up her hold-all before looking once more at the photo and leaving.
