A part of him felt like the drastic measures they were going to take would result in a complaint against him to Starfleet, but he knew better. The cruise line would not want extra eyes on a passenger being locked in their rooms. And based on how anxious Richard was getting, drastic was justified.

El’Heem: Right. We’ll take it from here, you’re dismissed. Okay Richard, hope you don’t mind a serene little space walk. I need you to find the EV suit for decompression. Think I saw it in the coat closet when I was looking through my room. Ezra, pick one of these rooms on either side and see if we can get whoever is staying there to cooperate. If not, Richard’s gonna have a much longer walk.

Zerva: Ras you better hope the room on my right is not a Ferengi Dominatrix in the middle of… well you know. I’m not here to judge anyone. Just saying.

Richard would probably be into that.

Matthews: Response

Quentil: Please! I can’t allow you to manually trigger decompression. It’s against policy!

The staff was useless and had no sense of urgency, and at this point Ras had lost his patience.

El’Heem: Oh really? What are you going to do? Call security? Maybe they’ll get here faster than engineering.

Zerva: ::waves:: Hi! Security Officer here! See? ::walks around Quentil:: I got here quicker. ::snicker::

Matthews: Response

Quentil: Okay! But at least don’t disturb the other guests! This is outrageous.

El’Heem: Where’s the nearest airlock then? Do something useful for once, please. Richard, you got the suit on?

Matthews: Response

Zerva: ::to Quentil:: I’ve got Zero G EV suit Operation training. I’ll accept any risk. If something bad happens it’s on me and I’ll take the heat for it. You can even call my Captain. Got it?

oO Hello? Senior officer here. Oo

Quentil: Okay! ::nervous:: I just hope I don’t lose my job over this.

Zerva: ::beat:: If you do, there’s always Starfleet. It’s not just a job, it’s an adventure! You’ll get to do all kinds of cool stuff after you graduate from the Academy. Like how to not open a cruise line guest room door!

Quentil: ::rolls his eyes:: Sounds like loads of fun.

El’Heem: Yea Starfleet would be a good fit! You’d be great in JAG. They love bureaucracy. ::turning towards the door:: Okay Richard, did you find the suit?

Matthews: Response

Quentil: Are you all this way?

Zerva: ::beat:: We’re a swell bunch! ::smiles:: Okay Richard, once you’ve got your suit fully sealed we’ll take it from here. Because the powers out, you’ll have to force open your window manually and then use it to get out. There should be an override in there somewhere right?

Matthews: Response

El’Heem: Yea it’s not meant to be easy. Put your back into it ::beat:: and not like that!

Zerva: ::to Quentil:: Now about that airlock?

Quentil: Nearest airlock? Oh right, there’s one three floors down. They don’t want any guest accidentally using one. It’s at the security checkpoint emergency access hatch next to the ships laundry room. ::eyes the door to Richard’s room:: Guys I really think there has to be a better way to do this?

El’Heem: Hear that Richard? Three floors down. You’ve done longer space walk.

Ras thought back to Matthews’ record. He hadn’t actually spaced walked the equivalent of a three story building, but it was the confidence that counted.

Matthews: Response

Zerva: ::beat:: Good news Quen! You’ll be the example in their updated rulebook on what not to do in the event this ever happens again. You might even get an award for helping to save Richard’s life. It’s worth ::quick thinking:: At least two ice cream cones right Richard?

Matthews: Response

El’Heem: Make it a milkshake and he’s in.

There was a long hesitation as Quentil looked between Ezra, Ras, and the door.

Quentil: Fine, but you have to tell security you made me do it against my will. ::turning toward the door:: Richard, the manual release can be sticky, if you push in and pull back fast, it should cause imminent decompression. You’ll have less than ten seconds to brace or it’ll suck you out and blow you away from the ship. Is your tether secured?

Finally, some cooperation.

Matthews/Zerva: Response

El’Heem: Alright, Richard. Good luck. We’ll meet you down at the airlock. Spend that time in perfect silence reflecting on why these things always happen to you.

Matthews/Zerva: Response

Ras could hear shuffling behind the door before a loud clang rung out. He counted five seconds in his head, and true to Quentil’s word a loud whistling came from behind the door and before long it was silent again.

El’Heem: See? Easy. Take-

He was cut off when all the lights in the hallway bathed them in a dark red. A robotic woman’s voice came through the intercom.

Ship Computer: Warning. Emergency decompression detected on Deck 47. Please remain in your rooms.

Ras’s eyes grew large as he stared at Quentil.

Quentil: I told you there had to be a better way. Security will escort you to retrieve your friend. We will have to assign him a new room but nothing at this tier is available. Mr. Matthews will have to bunk in the crew quarters until the end of the cruise.

Zerva: Response

El’Heem: I expect there to be some kind of compensation for his inconvenience.

Quentil: How about not reporting this to your CO?

Ras pursed his lips and nodded slowly.

El’Heem: Yep. Yea. That’ll do it.

At that moment three security officers arrived, already informed of the situation by Quen on his PADD.

El’Heem: All set EZ?

Zerva: Response

He feigned a smile to the men who were not as pleased about the situation as he wanted them to be.

El’Heem: Gentlemen? Shall we?
