((OOC: I’m using a 2402–– stardate in the style of Jane Austen etc. to indicate a date about which Juliet is being specific IC but I’m choosing to be vague OOC as shore leave is timey-wimey.))

((Juliet’s Quarters, Room 142, Deck 14, USS Khitomer – early in Shore Leave))

Juliet tossed her pen down next to her open notebook, the long-obsolete paper book a rare touch of analog technology among the otherwise digital trappings of a Starfleet life. She ran her eyes down the page of note-taking, checking for completeness, and then ran her tricorder over today’s pages of handwritten notes to scan them for later reference. A few more days of work and the notebook would be full, destined for replicator recycling while her notes lived on in digital format on a PADD. It was, perhaps, her strangest study habit – born of an offhand comment from Danryn about human neurology and cognitive recall early in their Academy days – and it’d raised more than one eyebrow over the years. But it worked for her, and that was what mattered.

Feeling a little less stressed now she’d finally got something ticked off her mental to-do list, she moved onto the next item… medical clearance, right. She tapped her combadge.

Banks: =/\= Ensign Banks to Sickbay. =/\=

The response only took a moment.

Othin: =/\= Sickbay here, this is Othin. =/\=

Oh – yes, the … direct one.

Banks: =/\= I need to book an appointment for onboarding medical clearance. Is there a suitable time available in the next day or two? =/\=

A pause, and then the nurse responded.

Othin: =/\= Sickbay is still on limited access while repairs are ongoing. I’ve booked you in three days from now, at fourteen hundred. You can get your clearance exam on the station if it’s urgent, just tell us. =/\=

Banks: =/\= Er – no, that’s fine. Stardate 2402–– at fourteen hundred hours. I’ll be there. =/\=

Othin: =/\= Is there anything else? =/\=

Banks: =/\= …No, that’s all. …Thankyou? =/\=

The connection bleeped closed unceremoniously. Nurse Othin, Juliet decided, was not somebody she wanted to annoy.

((Sickbay, Deck 6, USS Khitomer – three days later))

Juliet tapped the door controls to enter Sickbay. A lot of the damage looked to have been repaired, but she could still see dark scuffs on the corridor flooring and something in the door mechanism made a quiet graunching sound as they slid apart, a far cry from the usual swoosh. The engineers and the repair crews clearly still had a lot of work ahead of them.

Juliet stepped inside and the doors complained their way closed behind her. She looked around and… oh no, no sign of Crewman Othin, what a shame.

She did, though, see a doctor looking at a wall display nearby; the woman turned, and Juliet recognised the Haliian doctor who treated her after their escape from the Lagoon Nebula. Juliet felt better already – the woman had been a much-needed source of gentleness and comfort on a hard day, and it was hard not to associate her with a feeling of safety. Not that Juliet was trying terribly hard to avoid it; Medical colours had long held positive associations for her.

Ohnari: Response

Juliet stepped towards her, a bright smile on her face as she approached.

Banks: Hello doct- ::remembering:: um, Talia! ::catching sight of her pips:: …sir?

A conflicted expression crossed Juliet’s face as though some vital operational process had crashed inside her head and was now refusing to reboot. She smiled gamely, trying to roll with it, and quietly mourned the fact that her brain seemed to leak out of her ears as soon as she saw more than two pips on a collar.

Ohnari: Response

Juliet followed where she gestured and hoisted herself up onto the examination bed, legs dangling over the side as she sat.

Banks: No, nothing’s wrong. I’m here for my medical clearance for onboarding. Actually, er, are you- Commander Hobart told me to report to Doctor Ohnari for my clearance? ::a little helpless shrug:: I’m trying to learn everyone’s names but it’s slow going!

Ohnari: Response

Juliet swivelled to lie fully on the examination bed, settling into the padding and listening as Talia continued to talk.
