((Private Room, Dewitte Residence, Ventura, California. Earth.))
Quentin offered his arm and she gratefully took it, holding onto it with a determination not to let go until it was absolutely necessary.
Collins: Shall we, Commander?
Jacin: squeezing Quentin’s arm: I guess so!
Collins: In case I forget, thank you allowing me to be a part of this. It...it means more than I could possibly say.
The music played Ayemet recognising that it was a variation on an ancient El Aurian waltz. It felt like a small piece of home, a home she had never known and only experienced as a carefully crafted facsimile . There was no rational explanation as to why it should calm her, but it did. She took another breath as the delicate veil moved ever so slightly in attune with her breathing.
Jacin: Thank you for being here.
Collins: The devil himself couldn't have kept me away.
She was about to respond, to tell Quentin all that he meant to her, how his return into her life was a gift beyond expectations when the music changed. It was their cue. She hesitated… 18, 19,20, then took a step forward.
((Wedding Ceremony, Dewitt Residence))
She could hear voices as they entered the small prep area before opening the marquee flaps and walking the aisle. She squeezed Quentin’s arm and looked up at him, her lips trembling.
They said no words. They didn’t have to. There was an unspoken connection, a bond that they shared and always would do. She felt gil give her hand a squeeze back and they entered to the familiar wedding march.
The dress continued to flow around her with the slightest of breezes. Everything about the evening was perfect, even the weather. Ayemet felt a growing nervousness as her Captain continued to speak
The veil bobbed gently against her face as they walked slowly down the aisle. She felt the flood of emotions, friendship, excitement, anticipation and love. So much love. She passed Ras, seeing with relief that he held the small box containing the gift she had chosen for Connor.
Her Mother. She stopped for a moment, hearing a gasp from some unknown member of the attendees . She wanted to hug her Mother to bathe in the love that she had carved for so long but thought was forever out of her reach if it had not been for the person who stood at the altar.
She smiled , no grinned as she saw him standing there a look of astonishment on his face. She blushed, grateful for the veil and continued to walk towards him.
Dewitt: Wow…
Hobart: ::whispered:: Told you.
Any: Response
She was almost next to him. After all the years, the troubles and the fears that the galaxy had thrown at them, and they were almost there.
Dewitt: ::whispering:: Is it too late to act cool? Because I’m definitely not cool anymore…
Hobart: Response
All she could do is look at him. Faze into his eyes and shyly smile. She felt Quintin silently leave her side and take his place. She was aware of Talia, Quintin , her Mother but she couldn’t take her eyes off her fiancé.
Dewitt: I think my heart skipped a beat… or maybe five.
Jacin: :quietly and shyly: Hey there sailor.
She reached out her hand, their fingers intertwining. She ran her thumb along his palm and returned her attention to the Captain.
Shayne: Response
Ayemet glanced up at Connor. She had never been so sure of anything on her life. Her life had been stormy to say the least. A Father who left her, a Mother whose was in pain, a lost love who ended her life, a Father figure who departed as suddenly as her real Father. She had let her pain and her doubt control her, filling her life until he drove them out.
Until him.
Shayne: Response.
Dewitt: I promised Nolen I wouldn’t cry or collapse from nervousness… I think one of those two will happen. ::nervous chuckle::
Jacin: why do you think I poured myself into this dress?
She took a deep breath and held Connor’s hands as he began his vows He’d discarded the paper which now lay crumpled and spoke from his heart. She would have it no other way.
There were so many things she loved about this human but his heart, open and true was the light that shone from him at every opportunity. A light that had guided her home more than once.
Dewitt: Ayemet… From the moment we met - trapped on that Sheliak vessel, me having my arm deep in some exploding console - I knew I was in for an adventure. I just did not realize the greatest adventure would be us.
She laughed lightly and looked down at the floor. She remembered that day where they had desperately tried to avoid capture and the bright young lieutenant Jg had thrust his hand into a console. She knew then he was going to be trouble. She knew then that her life would never be the same.
