Patak: Anyway, enough about little old me! I don't much care for being the center of attention, to be honest with you. What about yourself, Commander? Where do you see yourself in a few years? In the Captain's chair, I reckon?
DeVeau: Nope.
DeVeau: I’ve had an offer. I’ve said no.
Turned down a command? Patak’s eyebrows shot up in genuine surprise. Most officers he knew would have jumped at the chance, but Alora spoke about it with a steady, unbothered calm that hit him right in the chest. It was modest, grounded, and intensely human, or whatever part of her made her so effortlessly her.
Patak: Blimey, Commander... I don't think I've ever met an officer who'd say no to a center seat!
DeVeau: I like what I do now, and I have a lot of responsibilities not only in Starfleet, but outside of it.
Patak gave her a warm, understanding nod.
DeVeau: Perhaps some day, but not any time soon.
Patak: Someday' sounds like a pretty sensible timeline to me.
DeVeau: If I may, you’ve mentioned you have biological and adoptive parents? You’re in touch with both? And of course, if this is not something you wish to discuss, tell me and I shan’t ask any more!
He offered her a warm, easy smile, shaking his head slightly to let her know she hadn't overstepped at all.
Patak: Please, ask away, Alora! It’s no secret, and I certainly don't mind. I’m actually still quite close with both families.
DeVeau: Response?
Patak: The Starkeys raised me, so Earth is proper home to me, but I keep a steady line open to Targan’s House as well.
DeVeau: Response?
He chuckled softly, leaning back against the console with a relaxed posture.
Patak: Takes a fair bit of subspace comms scheduling to keep everyone updated on what I'm up to, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
DeVeau: Response?
