((Conference Room, Deck 1, en route to Deep Space 33))
Kael Ohnari-Dewitt left the conference room in silence., an air of despondency slowly making its’ presence known in his mind. He glanced at Tori and the Admiral and thanked himself that he wasn’t an empath and that the hostility in the room was only noticeable through words and actions and not the flood of feeling that must have battered his beloved’s psyche .
He offered her an apologetic smile, holding out his hand to hers. The whole idea was still somewhat ludicrous to him, but Tori was so adamant that it would work that he could nothing but love and support her.
Kael: So :pause: that went well.
Admiral/Tori: Response
Kael: I know I didn’t exactly help matters but they are so sure of themselves of their beliefs. It’s blinding them to the reality.
Admiral/Tori: Response
Kael raised his hand in surrender as they walked along the pristine corridor. He couldn’t ever remember being on a starship that was so; clean, so quiet. Where the bulkheads weren’t pitted with scorch marks and the turbo lifts were all in working order. Where it was so quiet. It was an unnerving feeling.
Kael: Touché. I guess it is a big ask, but if it works then we’re saving not just a few hundred lives. We’re saving billions, whole planets.
Admiral/Tori: Response
Kael: I promise, cross my heart and hope to die.
He laughed gently and shook his head. So much was at stake. Some, if not most of the people who sat at the table would be dead soon if they let history repeat itself. Wasn’t that reason enough, then a moment of horrific realisation struck him and he stopped in the tracks looking up to the ceiling and cursing to himself.
Admiral/Tori: Response
Kael: That officer, the short blonde woman I know who she was or is. That’s Dad’s first wife!
Admiral/Tori: Response
He felt a deep sense of shame overcome him and cast his eyes down to the floor cursing once more and only breaking from his mood when he felt the touch of Tori’s hand on his shoulder. He looked up, his eyes glistening ever so slightly.
Kael: He never talked about her. He would shut me down every time I asked, and there I was insulting her right in front of him.
Admiral/Tori: Response
Kael: Should I talk to her, to Dad? Tell that happens to her if we do t do anything?
He stopped as he saw the woman disappear round the corner, her diminutive stature made even smaller by her slumped shoulders and furrowed brow. He turned to face the Admiral and Tori a questioning look on his face, a question left unspoken.
