(( Holocomplex 4, DS33 ))

She had not been onboard the Khitomer long before shore leave had been called and not only that but right back to the location of her  previous posting. Another of the many jokes that the galaxy seemed to enjoy playing on her.

She had felt a degree of guilt that  she should have the fortune to enjoy shore leave after doing so very little, but her guilt had been alleviated to a degree by the request from an Ensign Morda for help in running through a ttraining simulation with him.

She had set out at precisely the right time to ensure that she arrived at the  holocomplex at exactly 2 minutes before the agreed time so she was somewhat surprised to find a fraught Kerelian Ensign, who nonetheless greeted her in a friendly manner.

Morda: Lieutenant Edac? Ensign Morda.

Edac: Ensign Morda? Lieutenant Edac

Morda: I appreciate your time during shore leave. We had a near-miss in drydock the other day, and our last mission did major damage. I hope you might help me bridge the Academy’s general principles for emergency drills and apply them to our own ship.

Kishe smiled a sincere smile and relaxed as Morda came across as genuine. With each crew member she had met the uncertainty of just how she would be received diminished. There was no tension,  nor moments of fraught introduction. In essence her Cardassian  heritage apparently didn’t matter in the slightest. Perhaps there was hope after all.

Edac: Happy to help Ensign.

Morda: I’ve only been aboard a few weeks. I’ve read a lot on Lafayette-class SOPs, but mostly in the security and tactical spaces. Our transit out on our last mission, we did plenty of department drills, but nothing intense shipwide. And we were picking up the pieces on our way back, and then some.

Edac: I’m new hear myself Mr Morda. Perhaps we can both benefit from this simulation.

Morda. Response.

Edac: So lead the way Mr

Morda.

Morda. Response.

They reached the doorway when Kishe stopped. Starfleet protocol was one thing. Cardassia had a history full of people who followed orders without question or moral ambiguity. Perhaps that was part of the success of the military rule, unquestioning loyalty.

Of course this social interaction was nothing of the sort , yet Kishe couldn’t help but think of Amelia and what she would think of her formal approach A smile crept across her face and she stopped suddenly.

Edac: Sorry this is silly , Ensign and Lieutenant .  Please we’re on shore leave call me Kishe.

Morda. Response.
