Captain Rana of the Velithari had arrived in Sickbay. The hope was that the medical team could somehow synthesize some protection from the Sencha radiation. The (new) standard method for a muscular implant wasn't exactly viable for their unique physiology. Given the previous breach of trust, Talia was laying out step-by-step what she would do and why.

Even if Ras looked fabulous in drag.

oO Don't snort. More. Oo

Rana: Response

Ohnari: If it makes you more comfortable, I can provide my own scans and tissue samples, so you see what is being done and make your decision. Our physiology differs drastically, so our current methodology of a deep tissue monitored release inoculation may not work for you at all. As you were informed earlier, the Sencha waves are devastating to all organic life, similar to other radiations. The added component of affecting certain species telepathic communication is another complication. For example, my species the Haliians are what we call empathic. We have a low level sense of heightened emotions which is enhanced by touch. While we are capable of telepathic communications, it isn't innate. It requires a ritual and a lot of preparation. Whereas our intel officer has the innate ability and the effects are instantaneous.

It felt strange explaining the Canar ritual. It was very private, reserved for those with the closest of bonds. In fact, without the strong foundation, it wouldn't work. Which...was why she never dared to bring it up to Nolen. She would be devastated if it didn't work. Besides, he was stuck hearing "out loud words," and realistically, no one needed a preview into the asylum that was her inner monologue.

Ohnari: With your permission, I will demonstrate the scan myself and sample process so we can proceed.

Ras placed the tools on the surgical tray in front of Talia. She grinned at him thankfully. The comment about him being a lovely assistant died on her tongue. Only because they had a guest.

El'Heem: Here you are, doctor.

Rana: Response

The doors to sickbay swished open, the Captain had arrived, and it seemed he brought a new science ensign with him. Turning, she offered a smile in greeting.

Naxell: Apologies for interrupting, Doctor, but I’ve come to speak with Captain Rana about the Jorogumo and its combat capabilities. ::an open hand indicting:: Also to introduce Ensign Eeso Ayi, our fresh Science Officer who has not yet received her Sencha implant.

Melville-Kilpatrick: That's an important one. We were just talking to Captain Rana here about it.

Eeso: Doctor Ohnari, pleased to meet you. I wonder if you could explain how the implant interacts with various species and if there are any complications for species with multiple intestinal tracks?

Talia's eyes lit up. Curiosity radiated off the fresh-faced ensign in waves. It was endearingly refreshing. She glanced back to Ras with a wink, he was going to have a great time with this one.

Ohnari: ::grinning:: Lovely to meet you. And to your question, ::head tilt:: I haven't run into a crewmember with multiple intestinal tracks...but each nano-pellet is equipped with a three-year supply of the anti-Sencha radiation isotopic bonding element. Each pellet is tailored to the patient's physiology. The intention is to have a longer lasting preventative inoculation and the opportunity to increase the dosage should exposure occur.

It really was an ingenious little device. Doctor Harford and Talia had come up with the premise over another looming Sencha threat. Th Haliian was extremely over having to chase down the crew for an inoculation every time the sensors picked up any Lattice activity. Now, the device would prevent that need and serve as a first line of defense. The isotopic matrix would need to be refreshed should someone have a prolonged or direct blast...although if that were the case, the implant would be pretty low on the list of priorities. The burny-flesh melting possible death part might take presidence.

Naxell/Rana: Response

Eeso: ::pointing at the implant on a prep tray:: May I scan it to see how it works?

The CMO just snorted in amusement and gestured that the science officer was free to scan away.

Melville-Kilpatrick: Well, hers might not be an implant, but the concept is similar.

El’Heem: Captain Rana’s, that is. Ensign Eeso. ::bowing slightly:: I am lieutenant Ras El’Heem. It is a pleasure to meet you. This is Captain Rana of the Velithari Jorogumo. She is a guest of ours.

Ohnari: Captain Rana's species, the Velithari will be a bit of a challenge, as a muscular implant is clearly not a viable option. But fear not Captain, I have several ideas once we collect the samples.

Rana/Naxell: Response

Eeso: Chief Officer El’Heem. I am very pleased to meet you as Commander Naxell said my name is Eeso Ayi.

Melville-Kilpatrick: Oh, sorry. Dr. Melville-Kilpatrick. Interesting circumstances to meet, and all.

Talia kicked herself, "manners matter" her mother always said. Except she was teaching her that while re-loading a phaser rifle at the time so...conflicting lessons and all.

Rana/Eeso/Naxell: Response

Sensing a wave of discomfort, Talia locked eyes with Ras for a brief moment. He was meeting his newest charge. As a she. In fabulous drag.

oO DO. NOT. SNORT. Oo

Instead, she bit her cheek and maintained awkward, wide-eyed contact with Commander Naxell.

El'Heem: Please forgive my appearance, we had ::beat as he looked at Rana:: miscalculated our first contact approach with the Velithari and Chief Ohnari has not found the time to remove my…prosthesis. ::to Naxell:: if you’re already here captain, I take it we’re running out of time?

The snort was involuntary at that point. Instead, she just smiled a sheepish apology towards Ras.

Ohnari: ::mummering:: I did say I would fix it....eventually.

Rana/Eeso/Naxell/Melville-Kilpatrick: Response

El’Heem: Captain Naxell, ensign Eeso and I could work out a dispersal method for an inoculation on the cloud itself. Are the samples in the lab still viable?

Had they managed to gather a sample before the abduction of one Ensign Richards?

Rana/Eeso/Naxell/Melville-Kilpatrick: Response

El’Heem: Yes sir. Doctor Ohnari, MK and I will fetch a sample of the nebula and he will return with it here for you to work on a formula that can inoculate the cloud and the Jorogumo. Ensign Eeso can meet me in the lab once they have received their implant. Objections?

Talia began prepping the nano-pellets. Next time she had extra lab time, she considered making the delivery method less...unpleasant. But there wasn't time for that now.

Ohnari: No objections here. After I send the Ensign along, with permission Captain Rana, we'll resume our options once I've collected a few samples.

Rana/Eeso/Naxell/Melville-Kilpatrick
: Response

Ohnari: I certainly don't mind, however that will be up to the Commander and Ensign Eeso here. As previously mentioned, some species have cultural or personal reservations about partial public nudity. ::turning and speaking to the "patients":: Fear not, I do have a privacy screen.
