Kmett: I come from Bolarus IX, where I studied every aspect of medicine I possibly could. My specialty is infectious diseases. It's something of a personal—and family—mission for me. I've trained in many other areas of medicine as well, but I know there's still so much left to learn here. ::He looked around Sickbay with quiet admiration.:: That's actually what excites me the most. I know a great deal, yet when I look at the reality of medicine across the galaxy, I can't help but feel that I'm only just beginning. ::His attention returned to Melville-Kilpatrick, his curiosity unmistakable.:: What about you? What inspired you to become a doctor? And what's your specialty? ::A broad grin spread across his face.:: I'm honestly even more interested in hearing about that than the haunted officers' quarters.

Melville-Kilpatrick: Emergency medicine. It wasn't even what got me interested in medicine, but I did a rotation and I liked it better than pretty much anything else.

Kmett: That's interesting. Being a doctor really does seem like a calling. It's a unique experience—more than almost any other profession, I think. ::He nodded with quiet conviction.::

Melville-Kilpatrick: I think I learned pretty early on that no matter what you specialize in, you'll get a chance to do a lot of learning on missions. I mean, I've only been on a few, and I've already had to go outside my comfort zone.

Kmett: I understand exactly what you mean. ::He smiled, clearly enjoying the conversation.:: I'm sure serving aboard a starship is extraordinary. It pushes us far beyond anything we could have learned from textbooks or at the Academy. ::He glanced around Sickbay with quiet admiration.:: This is where medicine truly comes to life.

Melville-Kilpatrick:  Dr. Ohnari's a pretty good example of learning out here. Even if you're used to one thing, the ship will find a way to get you to learn something else. I like it. It reminds me that we've got to be ready for anything. 

Kmett: I completely agree. ::He nodded enthusiastically.:: We have to be ready for anything, and that's exactly what makes being here so exciting. Personally, I can't wait to be fully involved. ::After a brief pause, he tilted his head curiously.:: By the way, do you know when we'll be departing or when our first mission will begin?

Melville-Kilpatrick: Response

Kmett: Perfect. Thank you very much. ::He smiled appreciatively.:: Until then, would it be a good idea for me to study the Khitomer's medical database? ::He looked at Melville-Kilpatrick with genuine curiosity.:: How did you approach things when you first came aboard? ::He laughed softly, looking a little embarrassed.:: Sorry for asking so many questions. I'm just very enthusiastic... and a little unsure of myself.

Melville-Kilpatrick: Response

Kmett: Excellent. Thank you very much. ::He smiled warmly.:: I don't want to keep you any longer than necessary. If you need to go, please don't let me stop you. I'll stay here and wait until I'm told what to do next. ::His smile broadened, and he chuckled.:: But if you have time to stay, I'd be delighted. It's nice to have some company while I'm finding my feet around here.
