to USS Khitomer – StarBase 118 Star Trek PBEM RPG
((Cargo Bay 2, Deck 15, USS Khitomer, in orbit of Alpha Trionus II))
((OOC: This all takes place before we start transporting any of the prisoners. ))
Lacy: That’ll be next. Fortunately, data line access isn’t down here.
Michaels: All right. Mr. Morda and I will take care of that. Keep me informed when you're finished here.
Lacy: Response
Michaels: :: to Morda:: It appears that we are going to continue your grand tour of the ship.
Morda: At least it’s not the Jefferies tube.
The turbolift door opened again and they entered.
Michaels: Deck 4. :: slight smile to Morda:: Computer Core master control. And coincidentally the transporter room typically used by individuals. ::beat:: And the ship's lounge. Not that we have time for a drink. :: beat :: Just a matter of curiosity, is this what you expected when you joined Starfleet?
Morda: ::A pause:: I'm on my toes. Knowing that I don’t know all the details, trusting in leadership – that was old news before the Academy. But the overall idea of having a mission, of a diverse set of smart people working together to serve others, and maybe meet some new people along the way? Yeah, that’s what I’m looking for. ::Eyeballing the dwindling deck numbers on the turboblift display:: You, sir?
Lera smiled as she glanced down at the deck. The question bordered on being embarrassing but since Vulcans do not get embarrassed, Lera stifled the feeling.
Michaels: There is an extremely high probability that you have noticed that I am not a stereotypical Vulcan. That assumes, of course, that you have encountered a sufficient number of Vulcans to have formed an opinion. I will not bore you at this time oO if ever Oo with why that is the case. For the moment, let it suffice that I do not "fit in" with "polite" Vulcan society. oO Or Human society for that matter. Oo It has been made abundantly clear to me that I had few prospects on Vulcan and those few did not were illogical choices given my self perceived strengths and weaknesses. Starfleet, on the other hand, was a logical choice and my assessment has proven to be correct. I expected unusual problems to solve in unusual situations. :: beat :: Here we are.
((Deck 4, Computer Core Antechamber, USS Khitomer, in orbit of Alpha Trionus II))
An armed security crewman, that Lera recognized but could not name, stood near the hatch. She nodded at him and he stood aside to allow them to pass. Was it because of her rank or was it because of Ezra? It did not matter. Morda spoke before she could. The security crewman glanced at Morda, back at Lera and then returned to blocking the hatch.
Morda: :: Repeating the Federal universal head-gesture greetings for "hello" :: Ensign Morda, security. Just arrived. Here to help the lieutenant in the core. Need us to authenticate in, Crewman?
Beaumont: XO stamped you into the roster; you’re authorized, sir. Welcome aboard. I’m Beaumont, sir. Still need you to authenticate. ::Gesturing to a digit scanner on his console; Morda presses his thumb to it.:: And you, too, Lieutenant. ::Gesturing for Michaels to likewise authenticate into the secure space::
Michaels: Of course, Mr. Beaumont. :: She smiled as she pressed her thumb against the device. And, since Vulcan fingerprints are not as unique as those of most other species... :: Computer. Authenticate identity. Lieutenant Junior Grade Lera Michaels. Our voices are unique.
Computer: Identity authenticated.
Lera nodded to the security crewman and then gestured for Ensign Morda to enter the computer space ahead of her.
Morda: Thanks, Beaumont. Be seeing you. Be safe.
Beaumont: Aye, sir.
((Deck 4, Computer Core Master Control, USS Khitomer, in orbit of Alpha Trionus II))
Morda: Okay, Lieutenant. How can I help?
Michaels: Most of what we need to accomplish would require specialized training that I suspect was not covered in the curriculum you had. I will take care of those tasks. :: She began to work at the control console.:: We also need to cross connect three cables. You do those tasks. You will find the necessary cables in that locker. Get three of them.
Morda: Response.
Lera picked up a PADD that was sitting next to the main screen and called up the schematic. When Morda returned with the cables, she showed him the display.
Michaels: ::pointing to the appropriate locations on the display.:: Connect the first cable from junction box labeled Alpha Zulu 36 to junction box Bravo Sierra 42. Then repeat the operation on these four junction boxes. And be careful. If you connect the cables incorrectly, we will not be able to reassemble the individuals being held in the buffer. :: longish pause :: At least not until we correct the missed connections.
Morda: Response
((Timeskip))
The work was complete and Lera had checked all the connections. Ensign Morda had accomplished his task quickly and perfectly.
Michaels: We will make an engineer out of you yet.
Lera tapped her communicator.
Michaels: =/\= LtJg Lera Michaels to Commander Hobart. The transporters and buffers are ready. Remember that we can only store fifty-six profiles before the transporters will be functionally disabled. We can make those all prisoners if we transport all the ship personnel and equipment first. =/\=
Hobart/Bridge: Response
