((Museum of Medical Devices Throughout the Ages, Dangan Prime))

The trio of interested patrons had (thankfully) turned away from the horrific displays of ancient Terran obstetrics. It was impressive that the species had ever continued beyond a few generations.

Ras, ever the scientist, began questioning the new Ensign. To the man's credit, he rolled with it, and offered answers.

Kendrick: ::a quiet exhale, considering:: I didn’t transfer here expecting “boring.” I just didn’t expect my welcome packet to include confronting a Sheliak fleet.

Ohnari: ::grinning:: It's not like we signed up for Starfleet hoping for boring.

Anyone who thought joining Starfleet would be a boring time hadn't paid attention. To anything. Ever.

Kendrick: I left Starfleet once. Thought I could do without the chaos. Turns out I’m not particularly suited for a quiet life. So yes - I’m planning to stick around. ::a faint smirk:: Unless either of you feels Operations needs replacing.

She was so tempted to warn him about the "Operations Closet," but that might be the reason for their high turnover.

Realistically, it was probably the whole Sheliak thing...

But, part of it could be the closet thing. Maybe with the change in leadership, someone could mention the need for a minor expansion. Not that Captain Shayne wanted anyone to feel crammed, but she had a feeling no one got around to bringing it up to him.

El'Heem: ::chuckling:: You have no idea how wrong we feel about that implication.

The self guided tour continued, and Talia just took it all in. Fascinating what necessity has invented. And, the various prototypes that had not worked out so well...

Kendrick: So tell me - is this what Alpha Isles shore leave usually looks like? Or should I brace for something stranger before the week’s out?

The Kressari was giving her the look. She just glared back. She had enough shore leave shenanigans to last a long while. Breaking into ones Commanding officer's luxary quarters by accident, trashing the kitchen and passing out covered in pasta was not something that would be forgotten. Ras had left early, so of course he was fine with discussing it. He hadn't woken up, covered in slimy noodles next to the chief engineer while the Captain glared. All before coffee.

El’Heem: This is tame. ::voice becoming conspiratorial:: we could find something stranger to do. If that’s what you’re looking for, I think you’ve found the right duo.

Her glare quickly shifted into a grin. The man wasn't wrong.

Ohnari: I have absolutely no idea of what you speak, Lieutenant El'Heem.

The wicked glint in her eye spoke volumes.

Kendrick: I suppose every posting has its… flavor.

The Haliian snorted at his choice of words. Things were certainly flavorful. It didn't always mean it was a pleasant flavor...

Kendrick: What about you two? Nobody ends up in Starfleet by accident. What pulled you in - adventure? Curiosity? Family expectation?

Talia mimed a double take.

Ohnari: Whoa, strange pivot there. I grew up on Halii with an alarming number of family members working the family's Cranberry bogs. I joined the Doctor's outreach program after medical school, got burnt out by the lack of funding, and stumbled into the academy. ::grinning:: At least all my medical tools are new every time.

The mischivous flare she sensed was immedaitly followed by a conspiring whisper

El’Heem: ::whispering to Talia:: You think Starfleet has some privileges afford to it about perusing the museum archives?

Her eyes narrowed. What did this man have planned? And how much trouble would they be in?

She couldn't wait.

El’Heem: I joined Starfleet as a sense of personal duty, I suppose. They helped my planet survive and eradicate a blight that would have surely caused us to abandon our home. But between you and me, I just like cataloguing and discovering plants from other systems.

Ohnari: ::snorting:: And somehow snagged a medical degree in the process. ::mock pouting:: But yes plants and fungus were more fun than me.

She wasn't serious. Mostly. Ras was a fantastic physician and the two had worked well together. However the siren song of botanicals wouldn't be silenced. Besides, she had a brand-new colleague, Ensign Mellville-Kilpatrick, who had joined hitting the deck platting at full speed, as one usually does.

Kendrick: Response

She barely comprehended the words coming from Kendrick's mouth, Ras was acting...well, she couldn't exactly say strange, considering.

El’Heem: I think as chief medical officer, you could probably get us a private tour of the museum archives and we can find something fun to play with. You know, for science?

Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped slowly.

Ohnari: ::false affront:: Ras El'Heem, are you suggesting I exploit my professional position so you can make grabby hands with the exhibits?? ::her smile turned feral:: You sir, are a genius.

Kendrick: Response

El’Heem: All I’m saying is ::looking around:: They might have a Betazed Vox-Temperance Modulator back there or something. I don’t know, could be funny to hear the chief medical officer with the voice of a Hirogen, no?

Everything he said sounded more fantastic than the option before. She bounced on the balls of her feet with excitement just picturing it.

Ohnari: Ooooh do you think they have any historical prosthetics?? Say what you will, some of those designs were solid. ::pointing:: Ooh, lady with a blazer and a data PADD. If that doesn't scream curator...

Kendrick/El'Heem: Response

Walking with what she hoped was a confident, but casual gait, she sauntered over towards the woman. Her uniform was primly crisp.

Ohnari: What a fascinating collection you have here. I must say, it is incredibly impressive.

The curator took a moment, it seemed she wasn't used to being addressed by the patrons. But she preened at the compliment. Which to Talia, was a great sign.

Curator: Thank you! We pride ourselves on our expansive collection. We've collected so many, we actually have a rotating display! If you came back this time next month, why, you would see completely different items! We prioritize offering our guests something new with each visit.

Kendrick/El'Heem: Response

Ohnari: Being the Chief Medical Officer of a Starfleet vessel, I must say this is most enjoyable. Doctor El'Heem, did you say that you had personally seen the Mek’roth at a medical conference?

She blinked innocently. The curator looked horrified. As if the idea that a single piece of the exhibition wasn't a brand new experience for the patrons.

Kendrick/El'Heem: Response

Curator: Oh my heavens!! ::her lip clenched between her teeth:: That has never happened before...

Ohnari: What a shame we are only here in a limited shore leave...In fact, today might be the only time we'll be able to experience such an expansive collection...

Curator: ::brightening:: We've already set up the next exhibition! It even includes a section displaying various devices removed from live patients! ::flipping the PADD around:: One of which is a whale harpoon! ::glancing around, her voice dropped:: Follow me....

Kendrick/El'Heem: Response
