(( Deck 6, Sickbay, USS Khitomer))

Kael: Hey Mom.

There she was, standing before him. Kael gave a small, almost embarrassed smile, or at least what passed for one in the present. There were so many things he wanted to say to her, to explain, but officially that wasn’t why he was there. It wasn’t why she was there.

The woman before him was his Mother , but he was unsure whether she truly accepted that or not. It meant so many things if she did. What little empathic abilities he had garnered from his Mother told him that. The way she stood, the way she spoke was familiar and yet foreign.  She had not been through what his Mother had, not yet anyways.  She moved towards him slowly, cautiously almost.

Ohnari: H-how are you feeling?

Kael: :neutral tone: I feel fine.

Ohnari: ::softly:: You broke your leg as a child...::looking stricken:: The setting looks like my work...although it seemed my tools were...less than.

He swivelled to the right, letting his legs dangle over the biobed. His Mother busied herself around him taking readings and making little eye contact. He could feel the tension in the room.  Their introduction to each other had been combative and the further he got from that initial meeting the more he could see how he had been a contributing factor to the sides, if there were such a thing as that, not trusting each other.

Kael: This must be difficult for you.

Ohnari: ::snorting:: I am sure it is not exactly a picnic for you either...I just have so many questions....

Kael:  :nodding: You can ask me anything you want.

He put a hand on her arm, slowly, hesitantly. It wasn’t a power play, nor any kind of subterfuge . He was trying to help his Mother.  Trying to reach out to someone who was both a stranger and the person in the galaxy he was closest to, apart from Tori. She stopped and looked at him.

Ohnari: I want you to tell me everything....::letting out a deep sigh:: Which...is probably why it is best you don't.

Kael: :smiling sadly: If this plan works, then maybe I won’t have to, or maybe we can…

His voice trailed off. So much of what Tori and the Admiral had cooked up was based on theories and speculation. As he liked to call it; calculated guesses. He held his Mother’s gaze, felt her touch and a part of him wished that things had been different. That they could have found another way, but that had even less of a grip on reality than the plan. They were out of options. This was most likely the final  ride for them.

Ohnari: I just can't get over how handsome you are. ::beaming smile:: Who knew Connor and my genetics together would be so beautiful? ::her hand stroked his cheek lightly:: I can guess our life wasn't exactly one happy little family...but...were we able to find some joy...?

Kael: : Of course we were, or will :laughing gently and then in a reassuring tone: You were a good Mom, and I grew up loved and protected; as much as any boy could be in those times.

Ohnari: And...Tori...she's good to you? Treats you well? ::narrowing her eyes slightly:: is polite to your mother? ::now her brow raised in jest:: I am certain your father and I raised you to be respectful and supportive...right?

He let out a belly laugh, shaking his head and smiling at his Mom. He took a breath looking around the medical bay he was in.  He was happy that his Mother and Father at least got to live part of their lives in quieter more peaceful times, jealous but happy even if harder times would be ahead for them if they failed.

Kael: I love her. The truth is I’m only here for her. :pausing: I don’t know  if this will work but

He was interrupted by the voice of someone familiar and yet different.

Semara: =/\= Semara to Ohnari. =/\=

Ohnari: =/\= Go ahead Amelia =/\=

Semara: =/\= Othin was just here... :: Beat :: Just... :: Hesitating :: Tell me she ain't dyin'? =/\=

His heart leapt into his throat. The grip he held with his Mother tightening. He tried to control his rising concern, determined not to repeat the mistakes of their initial meeting.

Ohnari: =/\= Not dying. However she has the signs of chronic radiation exposure. While she is stable, I am going to treat her and hope to improve her overall conditions. I...can't discuss the details over an open com, please understand.  =/\=

Semara: =/\= No, no, it's okay, I understand, I just... I needed to know that much.  Lemme know if there's anythin' else I can do? =/\=

Ohnari: =/\= I promise you will be my first call if so. =/\=

He mentally bit down on the urge to shout and leap off the biobed. Such a move would not benefit anyone least of all Tori. She was in the best hands possible; his Mother’s and he wanted to show her he trusted her, knew her, loved her.

Semara: =/\= Thanks.  :: Beat :: And Talia?  Tell Tori - =/\=

Semara: =/\= Tell her I'm here if she wants.  :: Beat :: And I'm thinkin' of you, too...  Talk soon? =/\=

Ohnari: =/\= Of course. And I promise I am going to take great care of our guests =/\=

Semara: =/\= Okay.  And thanks again.  Semara out. =/\=

He stayed still, his body tensing, adrenaline pushing him physically and

mentally to do something; anything. His Mother acted before he could turning to him.

Ohnari: Tori is ok, but I want to make sure she's better than ok. You and the Admiral as well...the long term exposure to radiation and what I assume is a lack of fully stocked and up to date medical interventions...well, I am sure none of this is shocking to you.

Kael: I trust you Mom.

Ohnari: Response.

He let her do her work, let her banish some the concern that he felt from her by doing what she was best at. Let her heal him, or at least feel that she was doing so.

Kael: :gently: It’s going to be okay Mom.

Ohnari: Response.

Kael: I don’t know. Maybe we will simply fade away or maybe we’ll simply create an alternate time line , or return to a future that we don’t come from. Temporal mechanics was never my strong point.

Ohnari: Response.

Rubbed his arm where the hypo spray  had been placed and took hold of his Mother’s hands once more. He saw the fear the uncertainty. She had always been so caring so loving as he grew up in turbulence and war. So much death so much destruction, and yet she had brought him up to hold on tightly to hope and to life.

Kael: I don’t want to die Mom, none of us do but if we can stop all of this, your friend Ayemet, that guy you were sweet on, dying: holding her by the shoulders: If there’s even a small chance of preventing all of that, isn’t it worth at least trying?

Ohnari: Response.
