((Deflector Control, Deck Fifteen, USS Khitomer, Lagoon Nebula))

((Brief Timeskip))

The call from Lieutenant Commander Connor Dewitt had been much appreciated. Charlie had a task to carry out in Sickbay, not a useless task but not something he felt was all that useful either. Now, with there being problems with the shield matrix, he felt like he could finally do something, although the lingering doubts he had earlier still remained.

Matthews and Torado had completed the journey through the Jeffries tubes of the Khitomer, making a snaking route from deck six all the way down to deck fifteen. Despite his, albeit treated, shoulder and her mild concussion, it had been a mostly an uneventful trip. Mostly. There was a slight problem when they had hit deck eight but, once sorted, they clambered on without any other serious concerns. His shoulder still ached, still twinged from time to time, but the sensation had returned to normal, as had the colour; whatever the good Doctor Ohnari had done had clearly worked. Up until now, anyway.

Charles felt his right eyebrow arch upwards as he and First Lieutenant Torado closed in on Deflector Control. He fully expected to be met by a member of the Engineering team, but instead it was a person he’d already met once already, the now instantly recognisable Valora Croix, the fancily dressed tech specialist who had gotten Lieutenant Zerva more than a little flustered.

Stopping just in front of the woman, he nodded towards her with a weak grin spreading across his face.

Torado: You’re the expert, Val, that puts you in charge in my book. ::to Matthews:: Chuck?

oO Chuck? Has she spoken to Sil? He called me Chuck too… Wait! Or is it as in… chucked my guts up? Dammit! Oo

C. Matthews: I mean, we could start the “expert versus Starfleet Officer” debate but I’m not really wanting to get into that or begin counting pips either. We just need to get this done.

Croix: Response

Torado: Alright. That’s settled. Now, Val, assume for a second that I’m a marine. What exactly are we looking for here?

Charlie frowned.

Matthews: Marines don’t take ENG234? Deflectors, Weapons and Security Systems? Surely that would be useful. ::smirks:: Do headbutting modules take up too much time?

Croix: Response

As he watched the two women, Matthews noticed Alene looking as if she’d just gotten distracted by something. Or someone. Looking in the direction of where she’d focused her gaze, he noticed an unfamiliar Andorian in a Starfleet uniform approaching from down the corridor.

Torado: I’m guessing you’re not an engineer.

Thalev: Yes sirs. Just finishing my secuity sweep on this deck. Petty Officer Maryu is taking Frell from stellar cartography to the aid station. She sprained her ankle.

The Tactical Officer cast his eyes over the Andorian, letting the words about another injured member of the crew sink in, and spent a moment wondering just how many on board were hurt, or worse. Eventually, after shaking himself out of his train of thought and wanting to crack on with the task they’d been assigned, he just nodded in acknowledgment of what the Petty Officer had just said.

Croix: Response

Torado: ::pointing to self:: Torado, ::to Matthews:: Lieutenant Matthews.

Thalev: ::Croix:: Petty Officer third class Thalev. I don’t believe we’ve met?

Croix: Response

Thalev: A pleasure to meet you ma’am. ::to Matthews and Torado:: Is there anything I can do to assist you?

Torado: Just what I’m hoping to find out.

C. Matthews: A member of the Security team could be beneficial.

Croix: Response

Torado: How cramped a space are we talking?

Croix / Thalev: Response

Having a strong sense of what Torado was getting at, Charles cast her a sideward glance before replying.

C. Matthews: Are you claustrophobic, Lieutenant?

Torado: Response

Croix / Thalev: Response

C. Matthews: I’ll be fine. If I can climb through the Jeffries tubes from deck six to here, I can squeeze into a confined space.

Any: Response

C. Matthews: We’ve been ordered to manually reset the shield matrix. We weren’t given much more information than that. ::pause:: Do you have much experience with deflector technology, Petty Officer? I’m not sure if we should assess the components before simply turning it off and on again.

Thalev / Croix / Torado: Response
