Lieutenant JG Ras El'Heem - Getting the bootleggers back together

The air on deck one felt almost as fresh as the arboretum. The lighting seemed brighter, the walls less scuffed, the carpet overlayed on the deck plating. It certainly gave the impression that this was where the commanding officers worked. As the carpet crinkled under his feet, he first looked left at Captain Shayne’s door and then right to Commander Hobart’s door. Big leagues.

 

Ras took position in front of the latter and pressed the buzzer. He wasn’t entirely sure Hobart would be in, but he also didn’t know where else to start. After a few seconds of waiting, Ras began to feel awkward. If he was in there, he was too busy for Ras or tied up, if he wasn’t then he’d be waiting for nothing. He rocked on the balls of his feet a considered whistling stereotypically. Another moment or two passed and Ras decided he wasn’t in or up for visitors. He began to spin on his feet just as the door opened.

 

Hobart: Response

 

El’Heem: Commander. Sorry to intrude. Were you busy?

 

Hobart: Response

 

El’Heem: Right to the point then. I needed to ask a favor. ::looking back at the captain’s door:: but maybe not out here?

 

Hobart: Response

 

El’Heem: ::unamuse struck Ras’ face:: No sir. Not that kind of favor. May I come in?

 

Hobart: Response

 

Ras entered the man’s office and took a seat at the desk opposite the commander.

 

Hobart: Response

 

El’Heem: Yes so, I may have heard a rumor we used to have some unsanctioned…alcohol production on the Arrow?

 

Hobart: Response

 

Ras cleared his throat and straightened up.

 

El’Heem: No…uhhh….no sir. I’m not trying to push the envelope here, I know there are limits to what we can get away with. Uhhh…sorry. That’s not what I meant either.

 

Hobart: Response

 

El’Heem: Sir. I’m only asking because a Kressari holiday is coming up, and I’d like to celebrate it with some of the crew. Part of the festivities include consuming a wine distilled from mushrooms and I have no way of getting it here before then. ::pausing to let the implication linger.:: So I’m asking…

 

Hobart: Response
