Kael: We find another way. Tori, myself , heck your own officers would be affected. You can’t just inoculate someone and carry on as if the use of something like that means nothing.

Michaels: If there is another way to accomplish the task at hand that can be implemented in an appropriate timeframe, then we ... we will see what we can do.

Kael: Well maybe it’s about time that you did.

Michaels: I agree. However, Mr. Kael, just for a sense of perspective, the human losses during their world war were in the millions. Feel free to check my mathematics on this but I believe you will find that the ratio of a million to a billion is the same as the ratio of a billion to a trillion.

Kael: Response

Matthews: Well, glad I could provide a consultation on this. I’ll send a message regarding possible options for closing the wormhole. Cross-reference them against what we have on file for the hole we’re trying to close. One of the options might help.

Michaels: We need an option that we can implement quickly. That precludes extensive modifications to the ship's hardware.

Kael: Response

Matthews: I’ll send along the notes and programs we’ve been using to create alternate waves to the Sencha wave. You can use the SDA setup we have in the science lab. I don’t know what was done with the SDA equipment that was used on the ship. But if we still have the hull plating and emitters. We could probably use the ship itself to close any wormholes made by Sencha radiation.

With a wave, Richard was gone leaving Kael and Lera alone in the shuttle bay. Lera was almost startled by how quickly Matthews had come and then departed. She did her best to not let the emotions his departure evoked. He had been less help than she had hoped for with this difficult problem. Lera shook her head.

Michaels: That was abrupt. It is to be hoped that the information he sends us will arrive in a timely manner.

Kael: Response

Michaels: In the interim, I believe there is value in considering using the existing ship emitters. The ship has several high energy emitter systems that might be reasonable candidates for these Sencha-canceling waves. The largest and most powerful are the ship's navigational deflector and the phasers. There are intrinsic difficulties with both of those alternatives. :: She glanced back at the Ouachita for a moment and then at Kael. :: The emitter you installed on the shuttle is another possibility, if the connections within the shuttle are not too complicated. If we could detach it from the shuttle, make the appropriate modifications and reinstall it on the exterior of Khitomer.

Kael: Response

Michaels: Yes. It would not be my first choice. Installing such a horrific weapon...

Lera paused as another thought occurred to her. She turned and walked the short distance to the front of the shuttle.

Michaels: This emitter is comparatively small. If we could detach it from the shuttle and make the modifications, it might be possible to turn it into a handheld device. Someone with appropriate protective gear could carry it on the exterior of the ship, and use it to close the hole. A handheld device that could be easily destroyed after we have accomplished our task. :: Turning to Kael :: You could destroy it.

Kael: Response
