((Monozuki Tea Room, The Indulgence of Chocolate-Coated Jama’haron))
Stros: Average Vulcans worship logic. It is their all knowing-all seeing entity. By their view, logically, there cannot be an all knowing and all powerful entity involved in the creation of the universe. ::Shrugging:: I never delved into Religious Studies during my attendance to the Science Academy.
Taking another short sip from his cup, Stros almost imperceptivly shook his head. The tea was not good. Perhaps given enough time and additives, the tea may be palatable. But not in its current state.
Michaels: I was unaware that Vulcan educational institutions provided an opportunity for religious studies. Though it would be logical to pursue such studies if one had the goal of understand other cultures.
Lera took another sip of the tea. What exactly was off about it. And quite suddenly she understood. Almost everything on the Indulgence was synthesized. Projected room decors and settings. An impossibly wide variety of consumables. The storage for such a selection would be exceedingly large. Far too large even for a ship of this size. The food, the beverages, and, at the very least, this tea was replicated. She shook her head.
Stros: This tea is…interesting. I do not believe I will be adding it to my repertoire.
Michaels: I must apologize for this tea. It is not up to the same standard as Ras selected for my relatives. The error is mine. My conclusion is that it has been replicated.
Stros leaned forward after acknowledging the probability of her conclusion. He leaned toward her.
Stros: As far as the history of Sybok, The entire thing with the entity just turned out to a be just a supernaturally powered entity that ultimately could not travel beyond the confines of the center of the galaxy without outside means. ::Shrugging:: It was taken care of.
Michaels: “Supernatural” implies that it is something that can not be explained. That implies a logical error. That someone can not explain something does not mean that the something can not be explained. It only means that the explainer lacks sufficient information or understanding to explain the something.
Stros tilted his head and looked at her oddly.
Stros: For a Vulcan raised by humans on Earth, you certainly look at things with a very “Vulcan” frame of mind. ::Smiling:: You may be closer to your desire to be more Vulcan than you may realise.
oO Perhaps I have overstayed my welcome here. Taking him to an tea house that served such an inferior tea was a fundamental error. I should offer him a gracious way to leave. Oo
Michaels: You have been gracious and tolerant of this young one. If the tea were better, I might suggest something else from the menu but my suspicion is that it will be no more than tolerable. Further, it seems probable that I have taken too much of your time. I am certain that we will be able to continue our conversation in the near future.
Lera nodded slightly and briefly swore at herself for being so sensitive. It certainly was not his fault that he had stumbled into a sensitive topic for her. He had no way of knowing she had sensitive topics.
Stros sat up very straight.
Stros: I assure you that I have nothing but free time given our current shore leave activity. ::Beat:: But I do believe you have a souvenir to deliver to a crewmate, if I am not mistaken.
Michaels: I have not yet found what I consider to be an appropriate gift for :: mentioning Ezra would be inappropriate. Granted, everyone on Khitomer knew, or as a minimum suspected the nature of their relationship. But Lera had never discussed the matter of a cross-species relationship with another Vulcan and Commander Stros would not be the first :: the other crewman. I have a limited amount of time to find such a gift prior to our appointment.
The commander nodded and stood. He started to turn toward the tea house's entry but stopped and turned back to Lera.
Stros: I do look forward to continuing our conversation, Lieutenant. I find the somewhat overlapping paths our lives have taken to be intriguing. ::Another nod:: Until next time?
Michaels: :: with a matching nod :: That would be entirely satisfactory. I look forward to our next conversation. :: she hesitated for a moment and looked at what she was certain was actually a wall with a projected Japanese garden. :: There is a quiet balance here. The garden does not suppress emotion, nor does it encourage to excess it. It simply provides space for reflection. I suspect that is why I find it… comfortable. :: Perhaps we could meet here again.
Stros seemed to smile as he turned and left. What exactly was it about him that made her uncomfortable? Was it simply a carryover from her experiences with other more "conventional" Vulcans? Her reaction to the elderly T'Dara had been more severe. But then T'Dara was everything Lera was not. T'Dara had been Vulcan through and through with a capital "V". T'Dara evoked feelings of inadequacy despite her kind words during their final meeting. Commander Stros' comment about looking at things in a Vulcan manner left her feeling untethered. It was the old issue of whether she could be both Vulcan and Human.
In any case, Commander Stros had proven to be a pleasant acquaintance and conversationalist. She would definitely have to meet with him again. But right now there was a gift to buy and Ezra to meet.
