(( OOC: I’ll have Sival work his way back to the Captain’s group. Apologies for any confusion! ))
((Central Mall, Lightside Station, Awards Ceremony))
R’Kala: And what about you, Sival? Do you have any specialty in medicine?
Sival was unprepared for the question. Since arriving on the Juneau, Sival had been determined to take the initiative and get to know the crew. He even tried to reach out off duty to a crew member who seemed to be hurting (with unfavorable results). But he didn’t factor into the equation that others would express interest in him as well. If he had, he might have practiced some responses in advance.
Sival paused to consider an answer that should have come easily.
Sival: I specialize in physiology and neuropsychiatry. I am currently researching how beings physically regulate their emotions. I spent much of my career on Betazed where I developed an interest in these topics.

R'Kala: So, I know you two are probably still settling in, but have you gotten a chance to explore the ship? How has the process for you getting acquainted with the Juneau been?
Qinn: Response
It was an interesting question. As Sival pondered it, he found himself realizing that the Juneau had already begun to start feeling ‘familiar’ to him - which may be a Vulcan way of saying it was starting to feel like home.
Sival: I am still acquainting myself with the ship’s state-of-the-art medical facilities. With two sickbays, I find myself fascinated exploring the technology we have at our disposal. Admittedly, most of my time has been spent there, but I do wish to familiarize other areas of the ship. Do you have any recommendations or favorite areas of the ship?
R’Kala: Response
Sival: Sounds most intriguing.
R’Kala / Qinn: Response
Sival’s plate of fruit was empty. He had been sampling moba fruit for the first time, and he found the taste to be most fulfilling. While Sival normally did not eat for pleasure, this time he wanted to try more.
Sival: If you’ll excuse me, Ensign, Lieutenant Commander. It has been a pleasure meeting you. I look forward to our future interactions.
As Sival walked toward the fruit platter, he noticed another new crew member. She held the rank of Ensign, and she appeared to be Bajoran, or at least partially. She had joined Captain Oddas with Lt. Cmdr. T’Lea, whom he had barely seen since he first reported for duty aboard the Juneau.
He grabbed a few more slices of moba and made his way to the group.
Oddas: I'm sure she will. We get underway tomorrow, have you had time to get settled?
T'Lea / Trovek: Response
Sival listened silently as he ate a bite of moba fruit. Then he found a pause in the conversation.
Sival: Excuse me, Captain, for returning, but I just wanted to introduce myself to our new crew member. ::to Ensign Trovek:: Greetings, Ensign. I’m Ensign Sival, a new medical officer aboard Juneau. It is agreeable to meet you.
Trovek: Response
Sival: A counselor. Fascinating. I worked for several years as a trauma therapist. You’ve chosen a challenging, yet rewarding profession.
Trovek: Response
Sival turned to Lt. Cmdr. T’Lea. She appeared more relaxed than the last time he encountered her, but still not entirely at ease.
Sival: And Commander, may I welcome you back from shore leave. I trust you had a relaxing time? Did you do anything exciting?
Even a Vulcan, including Sival, could notice the awkward tension between the captain and her first officer as he spoke. Unsure of what he had said, he consciously took a large bite of his moba fruit and chewed it as he waited for a reply.
