(( FMS Gold Feather – Brig))
John realized they had to find a way to work together with the Ferengi if they wanted to get out of that Brig with their clothes on. But just like Osasad’Mon didn’t trust Starfleet, so did Rost.
He looked at Commander T’Lea, realizing he might have stepped out of line again by offering the Ferengi a deal he, as a low ranking Ensign, was in no position to honor.
Rel: Easy, Ensign.
It was only now that John felt the doctor’s hand touching the wound in his neck, gently massaging it around the edges. He looked at her and smiled thankfully. Although he was still feeling miserable, at least the wound seemed to stop leaking that nasty yellow pus. Whatever she was doing, it appeared to help.
Right at that moment the DaiMon snapped, fearing that Commander T’Lea might have actually found out what he and his men had been hiding down there in that tunnel.
Kaybay: Hold it… I heard enough! You found my true treasure apparently. What exactly did you see?
The Commander quickly turned around facing both John and the doctor again. Before the words even left her lips, her eyes already gave them the order.
T’Lea: Do not answer him.
That shouldn’t be a problem. As far as John was concerned, the truth was that he really didn’t know what was down there in the tunnel besides fungus, ugly ticks and apparently - as he found out when they left the tunnel - some Vulcan drug addict. Of course, the DaiMon didn’t know that.
He nodded in the direction of the Commander.
Kendrick: Yes, Sir.
Rel: Daimon, as a Doctor, I would very much appreciate some medical supplies to care for my companions. Nothing that can be used as a weapon, just simple supplies, gauze, ointment, anything you might have on hand. If you are able to sell our Commander, at least she will be in good health.
Smart move on the doctor’s part, John thought. With those burns on her arm, the Commander was damaged goods which meant less precious Latinum in their pockets if they sold her on the slave market like this.
Kaybay: Not before she answers my question… What…did…you…see.
The Commander gestured at John and Rel.
T’Lea: The Ensign was injured and the Lieutenant was tending to his wounds. They saw nothing and know nothing.
The way the Commander kept on putting herself in the line of fire to keep him and the doctor out of harm’s way was admirable. Although a part of him felt guilty, he knew he had to go along with her plan. Going against her order wouldn’t get them out of the brig either. Right now following her lead was the wisest course of action.
Kendrick: She tells the truth DaiMon.
He turned around to show the Ferengi captain the wound on the back of his neck.
Kendrick: I was bitten by an ugly little creature and lost my consciousness.
The DaiMon didn’t appear to be very much impressed.
Kaybay: Rost, perhaps your idea to flood this area with gas wasn’t so bad at all… Now before I do that. One last time… What did you see?
The Commander put herself in front of the force field again. As she straightened her posture to convey her resolve, she continued with fierceness.
T’Lea: I will not discuss this matter in front of my two officers and put them in jeopardy of the knowledge that I possess. Your reaction has revealed your intentions, Daimon. My fate is sealed. Theirs is not. Therefore their ignorance on the subject must remain intact. If you wish to discuss the information that I have uncovered I am more than willing to answer your questions in private.
Kaybay: response
Eager to please his Daimon and even more eager to get his way, Rost jumped into action and hit a command on the side wall.
John looked up as he heard gas starting to pour in from four little openings at the top of the cell. So did T’Lea.
T’Lea: Very well. You’ve forced my hand.
Kaybay: response
John placed his hand on his mouth and nose, trying to shield him off from the gas.
Rel: response
The Commander swiftly but calmly huddled up with him and doctor Rel, as she placed a hand on each of their shoulders. She gave them both a very steely look, mindful of the gas filling the room.
T’Lea: ::loud enough for the Daimon to hear:: I am very sorry. ~~Drop when I pinch.~~
For a split second it felt like he was standing in the brig, naked. A strange, almost erotic sensation came over him. He looked at doctor Rel and Commander T’Lea, only to find them standing there naked too. He closed his eyes and shook his head. Perhaps it was another strange side effect of that tick bite. As he opened his eyes again, he was relieved to see he still had his pants on. It had just been his mind that was playing tricks on him.
Meanwhile more and more gas was starting to come down on them. John quickly nodded, signaling the Commander he was ready to play along.
Rel: response
John felt T’Lea’s hand on his shoulder as she searched for the right position to perform her faux nerve pinch.
T’Lea: If I am not here when you wake. Do your duty to the best of your ability.
He felt a light pressure on his shoulder and knew it was the signal to drop down to the floor and make it look real. From the corner of his eye he saw the doctor doing her best to collapse down in a believable manner.
The Commander followed their lead as she hooked her arms around both of them and gently laid them on the floor of the cell.
John heard the Commander coughing as she walked away from them. He kept his eyes closed, afraid the DaiMon might notice that they weren’t really unconscious.
Kaybay: response
T’Lea: They will not wake for a while, and by that time you will know what I know. ::cough:: I would have told you the truth if you would have questioned me in private.
John had to fight the urge to get back up on his feet. The gas seemed to have an effect on his ability to play pretend too. Whatever the Commander was planning, she’d better move fast.
Kaybay: response
T’Lea: You are in control of the situation. I will not resist your will.
Rost: Let’s see if she’s telling the truth. Remove your clothes.
oO Too bad I can’t open my eyes. Oo
Kaybay: response
Suddenly John heard the sound of the force field being lowered. He felt the gas whooshing down through the floor vents. Another minute or so and they would find out if the Commander’s plan – whatever it was – was going to work.
Kaybay: response
John carefully took a quick peek at the Commander and saw her stepping through the opening.
T’Lea: The truth is, Daimon. I know nothing of your device. Only that it exists, and that Povan warned of its danger.
T’Lea: Now I give you a warning. Surrender your ship to me now, or I will kill you.
John realized this was their cue. But what was he going to do? Then he remembered only Rost was carrying a weapon.
Kaybay: response
John opened up his eyes and tried to muster the little power he had left in his body and got back up on his feet. With a sudden rush of adrenaline he went straight for Rost who was too excited to see T’Lea half-naked,that he completely forgot he was carrying a phaser.
John used the confusion to run straight into him and slam him up against the wall. As Rost dropped his phaser to the floor, John kicked it towards the doctor who had just gotten up too.
Kendrick: Quick doctor, grab that phaser.
Rel: response
Rost punched John in the stomach. And although in normal circumstances this little Ferengi wouldn’t be a match for John, today had been anything but normal. John was still experiencing the side effects of the tick bite and felt the strength almost literally being drained from his body. But he knew the Ferengi had one weakness: their ears. John reached with both hands for Rost’s ears and started to pull hard.
Kendrick: Let’s try some oo-mox buddy.
Rost started shouting in pain.
Kendrick: Relaxing isn’t it?
