(( Peppalexa - First Kingdom/DeVeau’s Quarters, USS Invicta ))
:: He blinked against the light, his eyes still adjusting to the dimness. He could make out that she was obviously pregnant, though he didn’t speak on it. ::
Skyfire: Humans age about the same as you, I’d imagine. It has only been… :: He counted quickly on his fingers. :: A few months, since my last visit?
::As she leaned back in her chair, Virah-Latyi let out a gentle rush of air.::
Virah-Latyi: Time flows differently for us. Before, I was to be joined. Now I am with children. I wonder if you will come to me again.
:: That gave him pause. Would he come back? What was it about her that seemed to have messed with him in such a fashion to keep drawing him back here? Was there a scientific explanation? ::
Skyfire: I don’t know, Your Majesty. I might return, or I might not.
Virah-Latyi: Then we will make most of the time we have.
::Because of the difference in physical characteristics, Virah-Latyi’s smile was not express in the same conventions of Terrans, but there was no doubt, even in the flickering shadows, that she was pleased by his presence. A moment passed and she grunted and shifted.::
Virah-Latyi: Perhaps you can tell me some more about your people. I know there are limits, but I would like to learn what I can.
:: Chythar bit his lip and attempted to ponder over what he could tell her. They’d discussed art, reproduction, food...and he was at a loss. Music, perhaps. ::
Skyfire: Do you enjoy music, Your Majesty?
Virah-Latyi: Music?
Skyfire: I see it as relaxation if it has no vocal component. Some songs that are sung tell a good story of an epic conflict, or others relate the tales and deeds of a particular person.
Virah-Latyi: We have such musical tales, they speak of our history, they tell our story. I would enjoy hearing one of yours.
:: The doc searched his brain for a good song, as there were so many to choose from. After a few moments, CD began to sing
Gypsy’s Home by Heather Alexander. It was a song that didn’t include any references to time or place, but rather one of a gypsy and travel. He felt that his rendition, in this atmosphere, didn’t quite do it justice. When he finished, he took a slow breath and tried to strengthen his shields a little. He wasn’t entirely sure of the emotional effects it had on the queen in her present state. ::
::His voice was soon accompanied by a gentle tapping of her fingers, then a rocking of her body. As the song came to a close, she sighed and nodded, then tilted her head.::
Virah-Latyi: I am in pain.
:: Chythar approached her, concern etched into his features. ::
Skyfire: What kind of pain is it?
::She shook her elongated head and struggled slowly to her feet.::
Virah-Latyi: Their time has come.
:: He hated himself for not spending as much time studying the Peppelaxian physiology, as he didn’t recall how they gave birth to their young. ::
Skyfire: Take a few deep breaths, Your Majesty. :: as he helped lead her to the bed. ::
::For a moment, the queen allowed him to help her, then she steadied herself and tugged her arm away.::
Virah-Latyi: Not there.
::Without further explanation, she shuffled toward the arching windows, two of which had remained open and through which the warm breeze had spilled. There, embedded in the floor, was a small pool, the water clear, clean, and still save for the occasional tease of the gentle wind. As she moved toward it, she stopped once to heave a groan, then passed fully across the floor to lower herself fully into the pool. It was deeper than it had first appeared and when she sat, the water rose almost to her shoulders. A gentle sigh passed through her reptilian lips as she settled, soon followed by a gentle croon.::
Virah-Latyi: From water, we are born, and when we die, to water we are returned.
:: He was about to open his mouth in reply when he once again reappeared in Alora’s quarters, and he collapsed to the bed. Devlin gave up his game with the cat and ran to his master’s side, jumped on the bed, and nuzzled Chythar’s hand as he gave a soft whimper. ::
:: It took CD several moments to regain control of his breathing, the sudden panic by the changing light caused him to be temporarily blinded. His mind raced for a few seconds as he gradually regained his sight. ::
Skyfire: What...the...hell….?
DeVeau: Whoa…
::Alora inched back a step as the form of the Medical Chief reappeared. Her eyes widened and she returned to her former position, eyes darting over his form as she studied him.::
DeVeau: You okay? You disappeared!
:: He blinked rapidly, and attempted to acclimate to the slightly brighter lighting of her quarters. Devlin gave another whimper and licked CD’s face. ::
Skyfire: How long was I gone?
DeVeau: Not long...five minutes.
:: He pondered how best to describe what happened and sat up slowly as he reached a hand over to pet his canine friend. Devlin stopped whimpering and gave his master’s hand another lick. ::
Skyfire: I...it was a temporal incursion….I saw Virah-Latyi again. She was….pregnant...second incursion since our mission there…. :: He paused and took another breath. :: To answer your previous question on how it happened, just like that.
DeVeau: Wow.
::Immediately, Alora pulled out her triPADD and tapped upon the screen before she held it up a little.::
DeVeau: Would you mind if I took a sample of your blood?
:: The doctor raised a brow worthy of Saveron as he got the impression he was no longer the resident vampire aboard the ship. oO That was my job, I thought. I don’t do enough blood samples, I suspect. Oo ::
Skyfire: What for?
DeVeau: I just want to run some tests.
:: He nodded faintly. She was a scientist. If anyone could figure out why he kept going back to the past at random intervals, it was probably her. ::
Skyfire: You’re welcome to, if you think it’ll help.
DeVeau: Wait a sec…
::Her lips curled down into a frown as her fingers danced over the screen. As data scrolled past, her eyes flicked over it, interpreting what the computer was telling her.::
DeVeau: Fascinating…
Skyfire: Can you share your findings, or do you want more time? I can leave and come back later.
::Alora shook her head, then glanced up at Skyfire. Although the data reported originally something different, it was changing even as she was standing there and studying it.::
:: Devlin gave CD another lick to his hand then padded over to Alora’s side and nuzzled her leg gently as though he too was curious what was going on. He crawled into her lap and put his paws on the screen, trying to do a cute doggie imitation of a studious scientist. With quiet patience, she scritched his head, then gently pressed him down so his paws were not on her triPADD.::
DeVeau: It was just there…
Skyfire: Come again?
DeVeau: Temporal flux...or radiation...or something. I’ve changed my mind, I’m going to have to study this and conduct some tests. This requires further research.
::If she could give him an answer right then and there, Alora would, but she had nothing hard and fast. Temporal mechanics were a dicey thing and although they were taught at the Academy and there were those who were more versed in its study than Alora, it was still a lot of theory and guess work. Even the experts were divided in regards to the hows and whys.::
Skyfire: Interesting. Want that blood sample before I go write my report about my temporal adventure?
DeVeau: Yes. Let’s try to cover as many bases as possible and I will let you know when I find something.
::If she found anything…::
:: He allowed her to take a sample of his blood before he picked up his little canine friend and headed back to his quarters. ::
Skyfire: Alright. Talk to you later.
