(( Bridge - USS Gorkon ))

Sitting down was not one of Samira’s strong points, yet here she sat in the center chair on the bridge. Only a few moments ago, she had been pacing around, but when she received news that Tahna’s team had returned from Unimatrix Seventeen, she gave the people on the bridge some extra peace as she finally sat down, looking at the other data that scrolled down on the little screen beside her.

Next, she received news that Vylaa’s team had also returned to the ship, though they had transported directly to sickbay which was not a good sign. Three people and a Borg sign were in that transporter signal. Had one of the team been assimilated? Or was it a drone that had followed the team? Her heart skipped a beat. The last thing they needed was another drone on board the ship. More data scrolled over the screen, the most important was that the Borg signal had been lost during the transport. A slow exhale escaped her.

Now she understood why commanding officers preferred to be on an away team instead of staying behind on the ship. The waiting for news and not knowing what was happening with the members of a team, if they were succeeding or needed help was nerf wrecking. Nkai had issued a message to Bear’s team to return to the ship, when the doors of the turbolift opened and in stepped the Admiral, Commander Marshall and Mission Specialist Sevo. The trio looked like they could do with a break. Samira quickly got up, making room for the Admiral and moved to the First Officer seat. The only team unaccounted for was that of Doz finch.

Sevo: Have we been noticed?

Neathler: Not so far.

Reynolds: Response

While Jo took a seat, Samira typed in a message on the console next to her. From experience she knew that when several teams were out on a mission and once those teams returned to the ship, the main question was always: have the other teams returned.

Sevo: The Sphere Finch and team were targeting has detached and warped away.

Marshall: That's good news. ::She briefly allowed herself optimism, then her brain absorbed the next flurry of information, and quickly reeled it back.:: Though, of course, that triggered a cascade through the Unimatrix.

And that was all the news Samira needed, she added a few more words to the message she had been typing before she transmitted it to all the team leaders, letting them know every member of the crew was accounted for.

Reynolds: Response

Sevo: I’m detecting power levels increasing across the Unimatrix! They might be getting control back.

Marshall: Naturally. It wouldn't be the Gorkon if we didn't skate cheerfully along the very edge of complete disaster.

Neathler: Hopefully you left some surprises behind to hinder them. The Devoras is ready for any new orders, Admiral.

Reynolds: Response

They had a rendez-vous with the stolen sphere, but they could only meet when they did not have any Borg following them. And looking at the reports that now streamed in, it didn’t look very good. The Borg didn’t want answers, it wanted them all instead. Assimilated, like little obeying drones.

Marshall: Reactions from the Unimatrix. They've adapted to the tactics used by zh'Tisav's team, and are deploying countermeasures.

Sevo: Any idea what kind?

Reynolds: Response

Neathler: I suggest we try to shake them off somehow.

From the Comm/Ops station an alert chimed politely, yet the look on Lieutenant JG Sen Baidan was in contrast with the polite alert.

Baidan: Admiral, we are receiving an urgent message from the Devoras. They report unusual energy fluctuations in their cloak, potential of a disruption in their systems.

Neathler: The Borg’s doing or something at the Romulan ship going wrong?

Reynolds: Response

Baidan: Uncertain, Admiral. It is consistent with a wide-band interface wave, not standard Borg technology we know of. If I can isolate the source, we might be able to counteract it.

Marshall: Sevo, :;her eyes darted to the Mission Specialist,:: can you run a full diagnostic on the Devoras' systems from here, see if we can sweet-talk it to keep the cloak up?

Sevo: Already on it.

If they wanted to get out of here alive and in one piece, they needed that cloak.

Reynolds: Response

Sevo: Looks like the Borg are using an antiproton sweep to try to penetrate the cloak. The Dominion was able to do that, too. Maybe the Borg picked up some tricks from them.

Neathler: Or they’re trying every trick in their book.

Reynolds / Marshall: Response

Sevo: There are some tricks the Romulans can do. Have them try adjusting their cloak’s resonance frequency.

Reynolds / Marshall: Response

Sevo: Or, we can just forgo stealth and beat it out of here. But the Borg will probably be able to follow if we do.

Neathler: If we stay here that antiproton sweep can detect us, though if we move and make a run for it, while the Romulan’s try those adjustments in their cloak, we stand a chance.

Reynolds / Marshall: Response

Neathler: Can’t we lure them in some other direction? What about a holographic projection of the Gorkon while we move away in the opposite direction? They might even stop that antiproton sweep if they see the ship.

Reynolds / Marshall / Sevo: Response

The longer they remained here, the bigger the chance of detection. Samira was about to say something when a beep alerted her for a change in the unimatrix. She magnified the view on the small screen and double checked to be sure. Smaller objects from the Unimatrix were catapulted in space, in several directions all at once.

Neathler: Are… are those drones?

Reynolds / Marshall / Sevo: Response

Samira could hardly believe it. Though it made sense as they had heard and seen Borg drones on the Gorkon’s outer hull during the first attack. Another message came through that required a more urgent reaction though.

Neathler: Sir, I’m receiving a message from the Devoras that they prefer to leave while they still can and still have a somewhat working cloak.

Reynolds / Marshall / Sevo: Response

They not only had the Gorkon to think about, but also the people on the Romulan warbird. It was odd though, if they would succeed in resetting the timeline, the people they have met on the Devoras would cease to exist. Same as the people they had met on Nassau. Although those people would live on in the memory of every Gorkon crew member that had met them. She inhaled slowly as she looked at the drones flying through space, some were approaching their direction, if they boarded either ship, they’d lose precious time and even the opportunity to return home.
