No ships in current need of repair, maintenance, overhaul or upgrade was a rare thing, and so Tasha found herself with some unexpected time off. Leaving the Gorkon for Iana station had been a difficult choice, leaving her friends behind to take up a new posting wasn’t easy. Thankfully however, Iana station was in the Gorkon’s home system, so she had the opportunity to bump into them whenever they were in port (which honestly, wasn’t often).
So, what had Tasha decided to do with her free time? Take a stray bird under her wing, that’s what. So, she found herself stepping into the Deja Brew cafe, the meeting point she had been told of for one Mikali sh’Shar, an Andorian if the name was anything to judge by. The file provided to her by the ReachOut program was an interesting one. This sh’Shar wouldn’t be the first person Tasha had taken under her watch through the program.
Stepping up to the counter at the cafe Tasha ordered her usual tea. No slice of delicious cake today, she was here for business, not pleasure. Besides, too many cakes would most certainly interfere with the figure she was trying to keep. Vaki had commented on it the other day, while stealing a forkful of the cake in question right off her plate.
sh'Shar: Over here!
There was a blue hand waving in her direction. Presumably this was sh’Shar. Tasha made her way to the table, keeping an even pace, neither fast nor slow. She knew from others in the program, both participants and mentors, that meeting their contacts could be quite a nervous time for the participants. She placed her tea on the table and took a seat across from the Andorian.
sh'Shar: Good morning. I'm Mikali sh'Shar, I'm one of the participants with the ReachOut program. Just getting through my orientation before I start.
MacFarlane: Lieutenant Tasha MacFarlane. It is a pleasure t’ meet yeh sh’Shar
Mikali managed a little smile, antenna perking up.
sh'Shar: Thank you for coming, I appreciate it. I'm looking forward to working with you. ::she paused, hesitantly:: We... will be working together, I presume? I am honestly unclear about what role you're to play in all this.
MacFarlane: I’m one o’ th’ senior engineers working on ship maintenance, upgrade, etcetera. ::She waved a hand in the air, indicating the long list of things she worked on. If she were to list all of them, they would be here for a long time:: Iana station sees plenty o’ traffic, Starfleet, Tyrellian, lots o’ independent freighters, th’ odd Romulan or Klingon vessel. I’m also one o’ th’ support people f’ th’ ReachOut program. What about yeh? Where d’ yer skills lie?
sh'Shar: Well, I am a qualified mechanic, certified to work on worker bees, shuttles, and other auxiliary craft. That's where I'll be helping out. I'm also a pilot, although I don't think that will come up.
MacFarlane: Aye, probably not at first, though if yer program supervisors deem yeh t’ be settlin’ in well there is a slim chance we could get yeh in a pilot seat near th’ end o’ yer year. Supervised o’ course.
sh’Shar: Response
MacFarlane: I dunnae mention it lightly. Yer record on th’ station will ‘ave t’ be impeccable f’ yer supervisors t’ even consider it.
sh’Shar: Response
MacFarlane: Yeh ‘ave an interesting record sh’Shar. They dunnae let just anyone fly an FA-150. Starbase one-eighteen, Independence-A, an’ a pilot on th’ Avandar. All good postings from what I read about ‘em. Then yeh dropped out after th’ Avandar was decommissioned in ninety-one. Six years later, yer tryin’ t’ come back. May I inquire as t’ what brought yeh back?
