(( Undersea Facility, Deep Trenches, Deluvia IV ))

With the plan to contact Deluvian law enforcement well under way Commander V’Lar had occupied herself with getting the emergency bracelet to interface with the facility’s external communication system. Maezel and Commander Sevo had turned their attention to the Nausicaan. She was still hesitant to confront an armed person and was very much favouring communication via the internal communication system.

Fenn: Well if we do choose communication while we wait, I’d say the plan from before is the best one. Using the internal communications would mitigate any risk of him attacking us.

Sevo: Yea, my thoughts exactly. See if you can set up a comm link to the room he’s in.

Maezel got to work on a nearby console trying her best to navigate the facilty’s communication system. It was a little tricky by virtue of being unfamiliar but she was determined to find a way to make it work. She became aware that Commander V’Lar had had some success when she broke the silence to update them on the emergency frequency they had been looking for.

V'Lar: I have isolated the frequency modulation used by the Deluvia IV planetary security forces.

Sevo: Excellent. Were you able to patch it through the facility’s comm system?

Fenn: Nice work Commander.

V'Lar: It should be possible to broadcast a standard, repeating distress signal or establish a live comm channel.
Maezel stole a glance from her console to check on the others. Commander Sevo seemed to be thinking hard about the options presented to her by Commander V’Lar. Maezel could honestly say she wasn’t sure which option was better in this situation and was thankful to have a couple of seasoned officers with her.

Sevo: What do you suggest?

Fenn: And how would each option work?

V'Lar: An automated signal allows us to remain mobile and ostensibly conceals our specific presence, as it could be mistaken for an automated alarm. A live broadcast permits two-way communication but requires us to remain here. I must also remind you of Starfleet Regulation 46A. If we assume the intruder—or any other hostile element—is monitoring these frequencies, transmitting an uncoded message on an open channel could reveal our identity, location, and lack of armaments.

Sevo: Insert a coded text message with the automated alarm, encoding it with standard Starfleet security codes and flags. That should let whoever know that it might be serious.

Fenn: ::nodding in silent agreement::

V'Lar: Then I shall configure the transmission accordingly.  Do you wish for me to transmit now or wait until the intruder's status is confirmed?

Maezel’s knowledge of communications system was limited but she had managed to recall some of her starship operations modules from the Academy. She had been able to adjust the monitoring level of the cameras to a higher level giving the officers access to two-way audio communication in addition to visual observation.

Sevo: Let’s wait. Fenn, how’s it coming with a line downstairs?

Fenn: ::tapping at her console:: All done Commander. I can give you audio as well as visual via the security cameras now. Well, two-way audio but he can’t see us through the cameras.

Sevo: Good. Bring the guy up on the security monitors.

Fenn: ::tapping her console:: On screen now Commander.

V’Lar: Response

Sevo: Ensign, open a channel to his location.

Fenn: Audio is active.

V’Lar: Response

Sevo: =/\= Attention unknown Nausicaan frantically rummaging through those crates. This is Starfleet. What in blazes are you doing down there? =/\=

Judging by the fact the Nausicaan looked as though he was about to dive for cover, Maezel figured he wasn’t expecting to hear Commander Sevo’s voice. He immediately stopped what he was doing, drew his side arm and started looking around frantically.

Nausicaan: ::flinching with surprise:: What the...! Starfleet!?!? What are you doing here? Who let you in? Show yourselves cowards!

Fenn: ::whispering to V’Lar:: Friendly specimen isn’t he...

Sevo / V’Lar: Response

Nausicaan: ::shouting angrily:: I’m not answering any of your questions! Leave this place immediately!

Sevo / V’Lar: Response
