Both Maezel and Crauw had been shocked by Ensign Spelvan’s seemingly magical ability to project his voice across a room. It had clearly worked as it had made both Maezel and Crauw look away which Maezel considered to be a sign of a good distraction. While not a physical technique requiring a decent level of strength, weight, leverage and hip rotation it clearly had its uses and its applicability was obvious.

Fenn: If it’s not a Suus Mahna technique, where did you learn it from Spelvan?

Spelvan: I learned it in my childhood. As part of the family... business. They are folk art performers.

Crauw: So you need an item that reflects sound?

Spelvan: ::He shook his head:: I merely manipulated my mouth, throat and lungs to make it seem as if my voice was coming from further away. I directed my visual attention at the vase, to make it seem that it was coming from that area specifically.

Maezel was still mystified that Spelvan was able to do that with his voice. She hadn’t been aware before now that such a thing was even possible. She made a mental note to try and attempt it in her quarters later.

Fenn: It’s such a cool skill.

Crauw: How about some moves when someone is sneaking up on us from behind?

Spelvan: ::He raised an eyebrow:: Do you mean if you are grappled or held from behind?

Fenn: Oh yes, this should be interesting.

Crauw: And don’t tell me running away is the best option.

Spelvan: If someone has held you from behind, running away is going to be difficult.

This was true. If someone was holding you in place, moving anywhere would be difficult. Maezel’s older brother used to do this to her all the time as kids and she’d never quite worked out how to escape without calling out for their mother.

Fenn: ::chuckling:: He’s got you there Crauw!

Spelvan: Like front blocks, getting free when attacked from behind is about maximizing leverage and turning the tables on your opponent.

Fenn: Can you show us?

Crauw: Response

Spelvan: ::He turned so that his back was facing the Bolian and human.:: Mr. Crauw, if you would like, you can attempt to grip me and I will show you what I mean. Or, if you fear hurting me, Ensign Fenn can try.

Fenn: Are you comfortable with that Crauw? I don’t mind gripping Spelvan if you prefer to watch first.

Crauw / Spelvan: Response

The bartender seemed a little hesitant so Maezel decided she would be the first to grip Spelvan first. She approached his back, wrapping her arms around his chest. Spelvan’s arms were pinned to his side as she kept her grip right by clutching her wrists and pulling him tightly against her chest.
