Ensign Dahlquist had raised a good question. With the timeline changed, they didn’t know what technology the Borg had absorbed. They would have to rely on the ship’s sensor readings and observations during any future close encounters with the Borg, which Greg was certain would follow once the Borg discovered them and went after the ship.

Aegam: The ship is now en route to that nebula where Depot 39 was hiding. Once I hear what our plan of action is from Command, we’ll be able to plan our own next moves.

Bowers: Understood.

Farvor: That sounds wise, sir.

Aegam: From now on I want security not only at key positions on the ship, but spread out on every deck. Your task will not only be to keep an eye out for possible intruders. But also for your own crewmembers. Be there for each other. And when tensions rise, try to diffuse the situation without making it worse.

Dahlquist: Yes, Sir.

Bowers: Yes sir.

Farvor: Ready, sir.

He sat down and made a note on the PADD. The previous conversation had given him an idea he wanted to present during the upcoming meeting with the other department heads. And with some luck, it would pose little risk to execute the idea.

Dahlquist: Would it be all right if I went round the ship with Bowers?

Dahlquist looked at Bowers who returned the look but didn’t say a thing.

Aegam: I don’t see why not.

Although he did find it rather odd, the request was only for Bowers and not for Farvor.

Farvor: Response

Bowers: I am fine with that, whatever you think is necessary Sir.

Dahlquist / Farvor: Response

Bowers: Which side are you wanting us to take Sir?

Aegam: You have twenty-four decks to choose from, I’m sure you can pick one yourselves.

Dahlquist / Farvor: Response

Bowers: Understood, ready when you are Ensign Dahlquist.

He leaned back in his chair, looking at Dahlquist, Bowers and then towards Farvor.

Aegam: Actually, one more thing before you go. You should also consider that once we have a plan of action, things will get rough, probably little time for some relaxation, and so on. So be sure to do just that, while you still have the time.

Bowers / Dahlquist / Farvor: Response

Aegam: We’ll probably work in shifts but depending on the situation it might be that we’ll have to pull double or even more shifts in a row.

Bowers / Dahlquist / Farvor: Response

Aegam: So Ensign Farvor, do you want to join your fellow colleagues, or shall I give you a tour of the ship, get you familiarized with the layout, and answer any questions you have?

Whatever the answer would be, it would tell him something about the ensign herself.

Bowers / Dahlquist / Farvor: Response
