The situation was becoming less optimal by the minute. They had to get into this room, but blunt force was not going to be the solution. They had to find a less violent way to move forward. Valek knew with the Admiral's background, she would probably be the best option with her computer skills. Valek had some training in security networks and could perhaps assist.

Valek: Given my responsibility for your security, exercising maximum caution would be the most logical course of action.

He tilted his head slightly and raised an eyebrow in response to Quinn's faint smile. Valek could not ascertain what might have been the reason. Then again, he was still learning other species' specific quirks and gestures. Most tend to contort their face into certain expressions when thinking quietly to themselves. An intriguing thing to witness. She quickly turned her attention back to Ensign Spelvan who was deep in concentration it seemed, then suddenly spoke.

Spelvan: Admiral, while you are attempting to override the door, I have a proposal.

Reynolds: ::She waited a moment for him to continue, and then gently prompted,:: Which is?

Under the circumstances and Spelvan's medical training, Valek was positive the Ensign would have come up with a solution to remove the mold tactfully and without violence.

Valek: ::Looking at the Ensign, and nodding::

Spelvan: I could attempt a mind-meld with the slime mold. I do not believe it wants to attack us, and we could gain valuable information about the current situation.

He froze for a second. Did he hear what Spelvan said correctly? A mind-meld? With a totally unknown species that from all appearances appeared to be plant life from another dimension. Valek wasn't one to take risks, and to him this was a very high risk with results that would be unknown and could be disastrous if attempted.

Reynolds: That... seems like a sizable leap in logic, given the limited evidence we have to work from.

Valek: Ensign, upon consideration, I must concur with the Admiral’s assessment.

Some credit had to be given to Spelvan for thinking outside the box, but Valek's primary concerns as Security Officer was to one; protect the Admiral, and two; protect the Ensign. He kept his face stoic, however he did raise an eyebrow at the Ensign's suggestion.

Spelvan: I understand the risks of such an attempt, of course, but I believe it can be done safely without harm to myself or the slime mold.

Valek remained quiet, and kept scanning the area. He wanted to be prepared if the mold decided to lash out again.

Reynolds: ::Mildly,:: I appreciate the noble intentions, but you literally cannot understand the risks. None of us can, not yet. This is a species of unknown intelligence with unknown capabilities and unknown intentions. And I can't ignore the fact that people are dying because of exposure to something that's come through that gateway. For all we know, ::she gestured toward the door,:: this is it.

Valek: Ensign, the Admiral’s objections are logically valid. I therefore suggest we maintain our original strategy.

Spelvan: Response

Reynolds: That, and I'd like to avoid you becoming the enslaved puppet of the Dread Scarlet Goo from Dimension Cymbidium.

The Admirals retort wasn't mean or degrading from what Valek could tell. She was the Captain, and had a duty to protect her crew. She said the last line with a small knowing smile. As Valek and Spelvan had their duty to accomplish, it was likewise for the Admiral.

Valek: ::With a flat stoic delivery:: I would classify that outcome as... undesirable.

Spelvan: Response

Reynolds: I like novel ideas; keep coming up with them. But in the meantime, let's exercise that maximum caution and head to the security room.

Valek: ::Turning toward the Admiral:: Admiral, establishing communication with the other teams may prove advantageous.

Reynolds / Spelvan: Response

Valek: I would be interested to know what they may have discovered, anything that might improve our situation with the mold substances.

Reynolds: / Spelvan: Response

Motioning toward the corridor leading to the security aux room, Valek suggested with his hand for the two officers to proceed first. Since he was the overall defense for the team, he would take the rear position to cover the other two officers.

Valek: Admiral, Ensign, I will remain behind to provide security. You may proceed when ready.

Reynolds / Spelvan: Response
