((Power Plant, Gibaria Outpost))

They were ready to start the swap from main power to auxiliary. Vylaa warned there might be power surges, and there were. Mostly in the form of blown panels and the like. At first, it didn’t seem like anything happened, though she wasn’t sure what to expect. But Vylaa and Kairis weren’t freaking out, so it must be going to plan.

Sevo: Stress on the core is decreasing slightly, along with a corresponding decrease in feedback from the gate.

zh’Tisav: Good.  Maybe now we’ll get somewhere.

Kairis: Response

Sevo: I was expecting more; like power outages like you predicted.

Admittedly, Ayiana was out of her depth. Maybe those things were coming as they ramped up auxiliary power.

zh’Tisav: It could still happen as everything settles down.  Especially now that you’ve, what’s the Human phrase?  “Jinxed” us?

Kairis: Response

As predicted by Murphy’s Law, a panel promptly popped open, exploding in small sparks.

A panel by the door popped loudly, showering the floor with sparks and darkening.  One eyebrow raised, the zhen glanced toward Ayiana, her point made for her.  At least it wasn’t anything major.  Like, you know, the core.

zh’Tisav: See?

Sevo: Uh…sorry? ::She smirked. ::

Kairis: Response

zh’Tisav: That being said, everything seems to be stabilizing.  Core output is steady, and the backups seem to be handling everything.  I want to give it a bit more time, but if it stays steady we can think about shunting the core into a dummy circuit.

Sevo: Good. ::She returned her attention to her panel.:: Everything seems to be relatively stable, so far.

Kairis: Response

The MSD chirped. Glancing over, Ayiana saw two line sections that had been green blink in amber, then a third. Maybe she spoke too soon.

zh’Tisav: There’s a rolling failure coming from... ::She checked the map, then glanced around the room, finding the same ID number by a service tube just above head height.:: … that service trunk.  And it’s moving our way.

Ayiana was pretty sure she and Vylaa were thinking the same thing.

Sevo: The vines, you think?

Kairis: Response

Sevo: How long until they get here?

zh’Tisav / Kairis: Response

Ayiana looked at the MSD and at her power monitor screen. The latter seemed to be doing fine, although she noticed minor fluctuations in the areas where the flora was supposedly invading.

Sevo: Is there anything else we can do? What about that deterrence your team was working on? Can that be applied here?

zh’Tisav / Kairis: Response

She returned attention to the screens at the moment a violent shudder echoed nearby. More panels and the like exploded in the area. Her power monitor showed a sudden spike in instabilities. Looking over at the MSD, more and more areas were lighting up.

Sevo: What the hell was that?!

zh’Tisav / Kairis: Response
