Vylaa had expected a solo hike on the glacier. She hadn’t expected anyone to brave the elements, especially when there were so many tourist traps at lower latitudes. Turns out there was one Bajoran brave enough.
zh’Tisav: You know, I didn’t expect to see anyone from the ship up here. Everyone’s “beach this” and “beach that” but there’s more to a planet than sand.
Tahna: I do enjoy the beaches, and the aquatics, but the mountain trails seemed too fun not to check out.
zh’Tisav: Even Risa has icecaps, tiny though they are…
They emerged around an outcrop and could see the glacier properly. At first seemingly a flat plain of snow, dim lines of shadow showed where the ice beneath had cracked and settled. A line of orange flags marked the trail at intervals close enough to see the next one but not too close as to clutter the scenery.
The sun reflected of the snow like a mirror, making the tall Andorian squint and reach into her pocket for some shades.
zh’Tisav: Ouch, that’s bright. Did you bring sunglasses? I have a spare pair if not but they’re not my best set. We wouldn’t want to get snowblindness.
Tahna: I did, but thank you.
zh’Tisav: Good. Snow blindness is no joke. The last place you want to suddenly not see is on top of a lacier.
She slipped her sunglasses on. They were Andorian made, made specifically for such an environment. Complete with dynamic filtering, they wrapped close to her face, leaving little gap for light to sneak through.
Tahna: Not for the faint of heart. ::She grinned.:: This’ll be an adventure.
zh’Tisav: It will. But life’s an adventure, so it’s business as usual.
Meru led the way, aiming for the first marker flag.
Tahna: Did you do much hiking like this back on Andoria?
zh’Tisav: I did. L’Uvan sits where mountains meet the northern ocean. The lower slopes are taiga but highetr up it’s much like this. I even did some ice hiking. In winter it gets about a meter thick and so wide you can’t even see the open water. How about you?
The zhen was smiling. Talking about home made it a little easier not being there.
Tahna: Response
zh’Tisav: I did some hiking when we stopped at Bajor. It’s beautiful country.
Tahna: Response
Alorr bounded up, her smoky dark fur stark against the the white snow. She was a forest grahty, unlike her mountain cousins she was adapted for life in the dark shadows of the pine forests. Out here on the snow she was rather noticeable.
She carried something in her teeth. She plopped down on her haunches in front of Vylaa and dropped the object, some sort of furry rodent, at her feet. She looked up at the pair of hikers, face full of feline pride.
zh’Tisav: Do all cats do weird stuff, or just mine?
Tahna: Rsponse
