Meru grabbed a dose off the replicator, pressed it into a hypospray left by V’Lar’s former work station, and tossed it to Pace as soon as she caught the scientist’s eye. It was impossible, with their limited data, to know what exactly the moss might do—maybe it wasn’t even being threatening at all, and they were projecting emotions onto a moss. But better safe than sorry. And it had been building up energy before…. Meru took another scan on her tricorder, this time of the moss itself.
Tahna: =/\= I think the moss is preparing to use that energy it was building up. =/\=
Pace: Response
V’Lar: =/\= Will the forcefield be sufficient to maintain containment? =/\=
Honestly…she couldn’t know for sure, since they hadn't yet seen this specimen in action. But she hoped the failsafes she’d programmed in would work as designed and keep the hostile moss contained, and she was sure her work was good. What she couldn't account for was any unpredictable oddities of behavior that stemmed from the fact that this moss was literally from another dimension.
Tahna: =/\= We’re going to find out. =/\=
Oh, she was sure V’Lar didn’t find that reassuring at all.
Pace: Response
V’Lar: =/\= Relocating as soon as possible would be advisable. =/\=
That much was clear. While everyone else might survive an attack, having since been inoculated, with little more than minor discomfort, they hadn’t been able to safely inoculate the patients who were already deteriorating. Another attack could prove lethal for them, and there were already so few they might save.
Tahna: =/\= Lieutenant, let the Gorkon know to prepare for expedited patient transport, ensure they’re ready to receive them. Doctor, what do you need? =/\=
Pace: Response
V’Lar: =/\= It will still take some time to prepare the patients for transport. It should be noted that those that are not viable for transfer can not be safely moved. What are your orders? =/\=
Meru checked the readings on the moss again, and scanned the area for any other flora that might be tagging along with it. She didn’t find any, and the readings, while mildly threatening, weren’t quite as dire as they might have been twenty minutes ago, thanks to her team’s successful experiments.
Tahna: =/\= Prepare the patients for transport. Those that won’t survive…we’ll just have to keep them comfortable. I think anyone inoculated should be able to survive what the moss throws at us, if the force field fails. =/\=
Was it possible to keep them comfortable? Keep them unconscious until they died, maybe.
Pace / V’Lar: Response
Tahna: =/\= I’ll see if we can get some relief staff from the Gorkon, trade them out for the civilian medics. =/\=
That hadn’t been possible before. Now that coming down to the outpost wasn’t an automatic death sentence…they still couldn’t afford to send very many of their own medical staff down, especially with the critical patients being sent up. But they could afford a few, surely. The Gorkon wasn’t a small ship, and her crew were the best at every level.
