((Power Plant, Gibaria Outpost))
So they were ready to dial back the power coming from the AQS, while simultaneously increasing backup power. The idea, as far as Ayiana could follow, was to relieve the stress on the AQS and prevent further outages and problems. There was still the matter of the energy coming through the gate somehow making its way to the AQS. For now, all she could really do was monitor it.
Ayiana followed the instructions the engineers gave her to prepare the line for system surges.
Sevo: Anything along the path we can shut down to lower the chances of surges?
Kairis: No, I don't think so. The surges are all coming from whatever is on the other side of that gate. What we have switched on this side doesn't make much of a difference.
Sevo: Alright, I think I’ve done all I can. How about you two? What’s next?
zh'Tisav: We lower the reactor and bring the back-ups online. Slowly, until the AQS reaches minimum output.
Kairis: It's going to be a bit of a juggling act, but as long as we go carefully, we should be able to manage it.
zh'Tisav: Commander, we'll need you to monitor the grid for instabilities. Thea and I will catch what we can, but the extra eyes will certainly help.
Sevo: Understood.
zh'Tisav: Once it reaches minimum output, the core will have more room to absorb future surges. A bit like letting some of the air out of a balloon. And we may be able to dump its output into a dummy circuit, which will help with the surges as well.
The balloon analogy actually made sense to Ayiana. She was glad they were able to dumb things down for her.
Kairis: The monitoring systems all seem to have thresholds baked in, so I don't think we'll be able to put the reactor into a dangerous configuration. ::She rubbed her forehead.:: Absent any external forces, of course.
Sevo: Of course. oO You just had to say it. Oo
Now they were practically guaranteed to come up against “external forces.”
zh'Tisav: Response
Kairis deftly tapped at her console; iconographs flew across it almost too fast for Ayiana’s mind to process. One looked similar to the EPS map she was monitoring, however. It seemed to be colored completely green.
Kairis: Well, here goes nothing. ::She glanced at the other two women.:: Backups are connected to the grid and I'm ready to increase power.
Sevo: Do it.
zh'Tisav: Response
She watched as Vylaa and Thea did the heavy lifting of pressing the right buttons. She wasn’t sure what was supposed to happen, but nothing sparked or exploded. That was a good sign.
Sevo: Did…did it work?
zh’Tisav / Kairis: Response
Ayiana looked at her own panel, then glanced over at Vylaa’s. The feedback on the core was going down slightly, and some of the lines in the main EPS grid changed color
Sevo: Stress on the core is decreasing slightly, along with a corresponding decrease in feedback from the gate.
zh’Tisav / Kairis: Response
Sevo: I was expecting more; like power outages like you predicted.
Admittedly, Ayiana was out of her depth. Maybe those things were coming as they ramped up auxiliary power.
zh’Tisav / Kairis: Response
