(( Phoenix Tower, Colonia Prima District, Adamas ))
The party atop the high Phoenix Tower was still getting underway. An encounter with Aldebaran whiskey had turned into a mention of a time when the ship was dry and rum-runners plied their trade in the hidden recesses of the ship.
zh’Tisav: Wait, the storage room? In Engineering? I think I found some of the stuff. There was a bottle, hidden behind a loose wall panel. It had dried up but I could tell there was something in it that smelled odd.
Sevo: Yep, that’s it.
zh’Tisav: I tossed the bottle in the replicator. I didn’t look further, but there might still be stuff hidden back there.
Sallia: Gods, how long has that been?
Fenn: Sounds like a while. How long ago was this exactly?
The Trill paused to search her memory.
Sevo: Um…around ten years ago, if I remember right.
Sallia: I’ve always wanted to try making my own.
zh’Tisav: You’d probably end up poisoning yourself. I’ve seen your old grades, remember? Chemistry was not your strong suit.
Sallia: It didn’t interest me. ::Quieter.:: And I kicked your *ss in art.
Fenn: If chemistry isn’t your thing I can help with that. If we can find the ingredients I’m sure we can bring in Crauw to help put it together.
Sevo: I’m…not sure it's wise to. The stuff was notorious for a reason. Besides, you can get decent approximations in the replicator. Mek might even store some authentic varieties. But what you do in your own quarters is your business.
zh’Tisav: That is true.
Sallia: I’d worry about you getting into trouble...
Fenn: It’ll all be above board. You never know, we might end up with a drink unique to the Gorkon.
Sevo: Well, Cory’s old “Warp Core Moonshine” was pretty popular. Maybe I can convince him to share the recipe. Though after years, I still haven’t convinced him to set up a new still.
zh’Tisav: I learned a fair bit about mixing drinks at my shreya’s tavern. Everything was legally obtained of course. You should have seen some of the combinations the old drunks asked for..
Fenn: Perhaps it’s just wishful thinking. It’s a nice idea though.
Perhaps a mixing class could be done, but keep it there and not delve into actually setting up stills. There was a reason alcohol was so regulated across the Federation.
Sevo: His wasn’t the only, erm…non-regulatory distillery on the ship. Lots of places had hidden ones, like the science labs. We could get away with them sometimes if we justified the equipment as “necessary scientific equipment.” :: She quoted the last phrase.::
zh’Tisav: And I’m sure you had nothing do do with it, of course.
Sevo: Be that as it may, please don’t try to skim past regulations. As long as you’re responsible with your drinking, you should be fine. I really don’t want to see the ship dry again.
Vylaa really didn’t see the problem. She knew quite a few Andorian ship commanders kept their ships dry as a matter of routine, Riv was one of them. He, and his cohorts, saw imbibing as an impediment to efficient ship operations.
The background murmur had slowly been increasing the whole time, until the Trill finally noticed the increase in crowd size. Quite a few of their shipmates had arrived, with more arriving. Some alone, some with dates, all dressed better than the Andorian had ever seen them looking.
Sevo: Lots of people showing up!
Vylaa’s eyes took on a playful glint.
zh’Tisav: They probably waited to make sure the Admiral wasn’t going to roll up...
Fenn: Response
The zhen watched as the new arrivals made tracks for the bar, and then the buffet before finally mingling. It was a tale as old as time, across many worlds: tell people there was free food and booze and they would be there almost instantly.
zh’Tisav: Where did you find a Ferengi DJ? I’d have thought with the large ears they’d shy away from loud dance music.
Fenn / Sevo: Response
Sallia: He’s good, I can tell he does this regularly; not something he threw together to make a quick bar.
Fenn / Sevo: Response
zh’Tisav: But those headphones are, well, let’s just say not helping his look…
Sallia’s antennae curled in amusement, but she took a quick sip rather than say anything about the little Ferengi’s costume.
