(( “Avwyr Town”, Holodeck 9, Deck 9, USS Gorkon ))
Now that they had snacks, it was time to see what else the market had in store for the two officers who had been strangers less than an hour ago.
Pace: What kind of art is most prevalent on Betazed?
Bendyn: We have different kinds, ranging from paintings to sculptures and different kinds of music but we also have telepathic art, which is somewhat difficult for other species to gasp or to explain. Although the younger population is turning away from those and leaning more to live art.
Pace: Oh wow, telepathic art? I’ve never even thought of that! The turn to live art is interesting though…
Meg finished her breju and tucked the napkin away in her pocket. She turned to Vesela, a bit too fast but she managed to right herself. She gently held the edge of a tapestry in her hand, which had people in all kinds of poses. Vesela recognized the poses as a dance.
Bendyn: Why do I have the feeling there is a whole story to read in this tapestry?
Pace: Oh, there is! In ancient times, some Elaysians would dance after good weather or the harvest to show their thanks to the planet for sustaining them. And also because dancing’s fun, especially in low gravity.
Bendyn carefully put the tapestry back and picked up another that showed a picture of the marketplace.
Bendyn: This is so amazing.
The Lieutenant seemed to think for a moment, then spoke.
Bendyn: Now we certainly need to visit Elaysia. Do you think they could make a tapestry like this but with all different kinds of plants? Although there would be less of a story in such a tapestry.
Pace: Well, there’s always a story to a tapestry, regardless of the final product!
Bendyn: Response
Vesela nodded.
Pace: The story behind the tapestry is also an important part of the story of what the tapestry displays. When I was a kid, I would get so bored listening to the elders talk about their tapestries. But… now I think I understand why the whole story is important.
Bendyn: Response
Vesela worried at her thumbs, the sewing calluses beginning to reform.
Pace: Y’know, if you wouldn’t mind a few mistakes, I could make you a tapestry with plants? ::She nervously phrased the statement as a question.:: I’m getting back into weaving, and I’d be honored to make you something.
Bendyn: Response
