(( Observation Bay, near Engineering
Annex, Gibaria Outpost ))
The officers had settled into repairs and investigation work when they were rudely interrupted by a particularly
aggressive creature. From its appearance and demeanour it was clear that it was not friendly. The fact that it has smashed its way through a sealed, metal door also proved to Maezel that if it decided to go for them, they wouldn’t stand much of a chance.
Fenn:
::voice pitched higher:: Commander...orders?
Marshall:
Wide beam, medium stun if it attacks. ::She steadied her phaser, trained on the creature's centre of mass.:: We don't know what it is, so we don't know what it takes to put it down. Breathe before you shoot.
Kovar: I have you covered, Ensign.
Maezel nodded to Kovar as she switched her phaser to wide beam, medium stun as ordered. Her hands still
shook as the sweat began to trail down her back.
Marshall: Both of you start moving toward the shuttlecraft ramp. Take it slow. Once we're onboard,
close the ramp up. The hull can take it, I don't think our bodies could.
Kovar:
Copy that.
Fenn: ::in a shaky voice:: Aye, Commander.
Maezel started moving slowly towards the shuttle, phaser pointing towards the hellish creature. Maezel kept
her gaze locked on it and noticed that it seemed to be tracking their movements. Suddenly, it reared up with an aggressive snarl making Maezel pick up the pace.
Marshall:
MOVE!
She didn’t need telling twice. Rather than verbally acknowledging the order, Maezel broke out into a sprint.
She almost dropped her phaser in her desperation to reach the shuttle. She threw herself through the shuttle’s entrance, hitting the inner hull opposite with more force than she’d intended. She turned around in time to watch Commander Marshall firing her phaser
before climbing into the shuttle with them and sealing the door.
Kovar: I am currently powering up the shuttle, Commander. It would seem that remaining here is
no longer an option.
Fenn: ::tapping at a nearby console:: Shields, communications, transporters and warp drive are disabled
but they left weapons online for some reason.
Kovar:
Well. ::he raised both eyebrows:: The decision to leave the phaser systems intact has proven to be unexpectedly prudent. With that in mind, I believe the question before us is fight or flight.
Having skipped the class at the Academy where they were taught to combat interdimensional fauna, Maezel remained
silent. She looked at Commander Marshall hoping that she had some trick or ace up her sleeve that might get them out of this situation. Any direction from her would be welcome right now.
Marshall:
Response
Fenn: Well...I guess we have three options – one, go back out there and fight that thing. Two,
use the shuttle’s phasers to shoot it but we risk taking out half the facility. Three, we fly this thing to another dimension and risk encountering the rest of its pack.
Kovar / Marshall:
Response
Fenn: I’m not sure I’d recommend any of them particularly.
Maezel moved to the front of the shuttle. Leaning slightly over the navigation console, she looked out
of the forward viewport. The creature was still there and had taken to circling the shuttle, snarling menacingly as it did so. It didn’t look as though it was going anywhere soon, not where its next meal was mere meters away.
Fenn:
That thing seems to be making itself at home.
Kovar / Marshall:
