((Dirt Road to Sershia Market, Deluvia IV))

After arriving on shore leave to Deluvia IV, Dr. Spelvan had, by chance, met up with the chief engineer aboard the Gorkon, Doz Finch. The two of them now rode in a cart that would take them to Sershia Market, while the Vulcan tried to make conversation.

Spelvan: The sunshine is a welcome change after the rain in veHrom'nagh, at the very least.

Finch: You can say that again.

Spelvan frowned. The chief engineer's statement seemed ambiguous - he thought he had spoken clearly enough.

The Vulcan paused to look at the scenery around them - they were surrounded by a robust ecosystem, filled with colorful birds, flowers, and trees. A blue butterfly landed on Spelvan's shoulder for a moment, slowly flapping its wings for a brief moment before lifting off again.

Spelvan turned back to his companion.

Spelvan: ::He sounded confused:: The sun is... a welcome change to the environmental conditions on the Klingon colony?

Finch: Nooo, you don’t actually have to say it again — it’s a Human expression! ::She shook her head, terribly amused.:: Doctor Spelvan, isn’t it?

Spelvan: Yes, I apologize for not introducing myself. It is Spelvan, thank you.

Spelvan had had his hands full in sickbay with both crewmembers and had missed debriefings about the other team's missions - though he had heard bits and pieces from those he had treated. He would have to go through the information some other time.

The chief engineer leaned in, as if she was sharing a secret.

Finch: It’s always good to make a little purchase to send back home to someone you love. Markets are just the thing for it. Though I suppose it depends on if you or your loved ones are sentimental — are they?

Spelvan raised an eyebrow to this. He wondered briefly if Doz had met any Vulcans before - but perhaps she was, as he was, just attempting to make conversation. Or her impression of him was that he was a non-typical Vulcan that valued such things as openly expressing care for others.

Spelvan: Vulcans are not a people known for being sentimental, ma'am.

Finch: Response

((Sershia Market, Deluvia IV))

The cart rolled along before stopping at an area with rows of colorful stands selling fruits, vegetables, trinkets, clothing, and all sorts of souvenirs. Spelvan shuddered at the sight of the fruits and vegetables. He knew he would not be eating whole, raw fruit for some time.

The Vulcan helped his companion down from the cart and looked at the horse-like creature who had taken them here. It was a beautiful animal - and strong. Spelvan noticed the cart-driver feeding it some kind of leaves as a treat; he asked if he could feed it, as well. The cart-driver was surprised but gave Spelvan some of the leaves to feed the animal.

After saying a quick prayer of gratitude in Vulcan for its service, he began feeding it, careful to avoid its wide teeth as it nibbled gratefully on the food.

Spelvan: Would you like to feed it as well? Food is a proven way to earn an animal's trust.

Finch: Response

After they had finished feeding the animal, Spelvan and the engineer took their leave and began wandering into the stalls. Though he often struggled with anxiety, crowds were not a source of such for him. The anonymity was, in fact, something he found soothing.

They came across a stall selling abstract art, with splashes of bright colors thrown across the canvas. Spelvan found himself staring at them, debating which one his brother Jakk would like best.

Spelvan: You asked before about sentimentality. My brother is what we call a V'tosh ka'tura Vulcan without logic. He would enjoy a painting like this.

Finch: Response

Spelvan: Do you have anyone close to you who you are searching for a souvenir for?

Finch: Response
