(( Deep Trenches, Deluvia IV ))

During their explorations of the deep trenches under the waves of Deluvia IV, Maezel had come across what appeared to be some sort of exoskeleton. Interest piqued, she’d kicked herself for not bringing along anything to record these things with. It was shore leave though so maybe she could forgive herself just this once.

Fortunately, Commander Sevo had brought along a scanner and had kindly agreed to let Maezel use it.

Fenn: If so, could I borrow it please? If I can replicate this, it’ll look great on the shelf in my quarters.

Commander Sevo unlocked its interface and carefully handed it over to Fenn.

Sevo: Be careful with that; it’s the very definition of irreplaceable. If you drop it in the depths, I may never forgive you.

V’Lar: While the currents are forceful, they are mathematically predictable. Should the device be dropped, the probability of successful recovery remains within the ninety-percentile range.

Fenn took some scans with Ayiana’s tricorder, then returned it to her. Ayiana then took some scans of the area herself.

Sevo: Look over there. What’s that?

V’Lar: The spectral output is consistent with artificial illumination. Range: two-hundred-fourteen meters. Bearing: three-five-eight mark two-six-nine.

Maezel gazed over to where the Commander was pointing. It looked to be a bunch of lights resting on the bottom of the ocean floor. From what Maezel could see, they were definitely artificial in nature. The glowing flora from earlier in the dive definitely didn’t glow so brightly as to be seen from such a distance.

Fenn: Looks to be lighting, I agree it’s definitely artificial.

Maezel watched as Commander Sevo scanned the area she had let her use moments ago.

Sevo: It’s a facility of some kind. Research, perhaps? Want to take a look?

V’Lar: It is a significant deviation from the guided path. Our presence may constitute an intrusion.

Fenn: I’m always up for a detour!

Sevo: Relax; if they don’t want visitors, I’m sure they’ll have signs and warning buoys around the place.

V’Lar: A reasonable deduction. Perimeter warnings should be in place for a restricted zone. I do not detect any such beacons.

Fenn: It’s probably a museum or something. This entire planet seems to be set up as one big tourist zone. I can’t see them turning us away.

It was also a great opportunity to (hopefully) learn more about the various species on this planet. If Maezel wanted a memento then she was sure a decent one could be found there.

V’Lar: Shall we proceed?

Sevo: Response

Fenn: Yes, let’s go.

V'Lar elegantly reorientated herself, tilting her body towards the distant lights. She paused for a moment to allow her companions to likewise realign themselves before she started to frog kick, efficiently propelling herself towards the structure. Maezel followed suit, following V’Lar’s path towards the structure.

V'Lar: If we can determine whether the facility is occupied and if there are any active transmissions we may be able to theorise as to its likely purpose. Might I suggest a passive scan of the structure itself? If the structure is a research facility and if the facility is carrying out research on the local environment then active scans could prove disruptive.

Fenn: I can’t see a passive scan hurting anything.

Sevo: Response

V'Lar: What purpose do you believe it serves?

Sevo: Response

Fenn: ::with a slight chuckle:: Well hopefully we’re not about to stumble on a secret Romulan base. That wouldn’t be a great turn of events.

Sevo / V’Lar: Response

Fenn: I know it’s unlikely, I was just joking. I can’t wait to see what’s inside.

Sevo / V’Lar: Response
